McGuire banks $5,000 in Trick or Treat Topless 50 at Atomic Speedway

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (November 5) - It was a spooky, nearly full-mooned "Trick or Treat Topless 50" Night, but when all was said and one Grayson, Kentucky's Josh McGuire tricked the the rest of the field and came home with the $5,000 treat Saturday night at Chillicothe, Ohio's Atomic Speedway. In the Modified division, second generation driver Dave McWilliams held off Dave Fireball Pinkerton and in the Hobby Stocks Brandon Thompson defeated multi-time track champion Jamey Adams.

The 50-lap feature endured only two cautions on a track that was fast and back to multi-groove racing for the endurance of the feature. Ben Adkins by luck of the pill draw led the first two laps with Rod Conley challenging for the top spot. On lap three a caution waved for K-C Burdette who had mechanical difficulties and went pitside setting the stage for a single file restart. On the restart, Jackie Boggs another Kentucky high flyer passed third place Josh McGuire prior to reaching the 'cone' and was whistled for the jump. Under Atomic rules, drivers are penalized two spots at the next caution, leaving a fired up McGuire and and Boggs standing hard on the throttle. A lap later, both passed the two front runners and raced side-by side until lap twenty two when another caution waved.

Boggs was set back in fourth behind Scott James and Rod Conley. On the restart, Boggs quickly zoomed past the next two positions and briefly staged another run at McGuire's GCP Race Engines Mastersbuilt Chassis, however, McGuire had the hot set up and blitzed the rest of the field by over half a lap. Great individual battles highlighted the racing back in the pack. One of the most notable was the battle between track champion Delmas Conley and former champ Jason Montgomery who exchanged positions randomly in side-to-side action for nearly 30 laps of the 50-lap run.

Chad Smith, Scott James, and Freddie Carpenter all had good battles throughout the night and fourth heat winner Ralph Withem had a top ten run end with mechanical problems on lap 32. Carpenter was the hard charger in the Tru-Tech #C-4 in a 15th to 6th place run. Rounding out the top ten were Josh McGuire, Jackie Boggs, Scott James, R.J. Conley, Freddie Carpenter, Chad Smith, Delmas Conley, Jason Montgomery, and Dustin Linville.

McGuire noted, "What a great way to end the season! This engine was great, my car was great, and you could run anywhere on the track. This is a 'Family and Friend Operation, so we take special pride in the wins we get. We'll be back next week if Jeff decides he want to have a race. I know the fans are probably freezin' but I hope everyone is still having fun."
