Booper Bare Racing ends 2011 with a great run in the Blue/Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway: Welcomes newest member to the racing familyThis week brought some exciting news to the Booper Bare Racing family when on Monday evening long time team member and family friend Randy Walters and his wife Rebecca gave birth to the newest member of the team. Olivia Quinn Walters was born at 7:37 pm. Unconfirmed reports state that she has already spoken her first words and they were “Go Booper”.
“We cannot tell you how happy we are for Randy, Rebecca and Cameron” said Booper & Lori. “Randy has been with this team for more than 30 years and is much more than a crew member. Randy, his wife and stepson are a big part of our family and we could not be more excited for them. This is Randy’s first child and they will be awesome parents. We cannot think of a better way to start the holiday season then with this blessed event” added the Bares.
On the track the 2011 season came to a close for Booper Bare and the Loco-Motives Racing Team when the checkered flag fell on the 21st running of the Blue Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway. A slight mist fell over the Gaffney, South Carolina raceway and delayed things a bit but when the action started it was fast & furious on the red Carolina clay. Strapping into the Jim Stasiowski owned MBH/RoushYates/Hoosier #37 Booper laid down the 11th fastest lap in time trials. Making his first start at Gaffney in over decade Booper led flag to flag in his star-studded qualifier to win heat #4. With $10,000 to be paid to the winner the team prepared the Loco-Motives mount for 100 laps around the lightning fast oval. Rolling off 4th on the grid, Booper wasted no time getting around Jamie Lathroum and Jonathan Davenport at the start and took off after leader Steve Shaver. After losing a spot to Davenport on a lap 39 restart, the left rear tire pulled off the inside bead and Bare brought the #37 pit side with a flat. Quick action by Chris, Merritt and the crew allowed Booper to rejoin the field without losing a lap. Restarting 20th with only half the race left Booper, pulled the belts tight and got up on the wheel putting the Loco-Motives ride wherever it needed to be while passing cars both high and low. When it was all said and done Booper stormed back up to 4th and had reeled in the top 3 when the laps ran out. The team would be awarded with a hard fought 4th place finish.
“We had a great finish on Sunday, but in a way it is a little disappointing” said Booper Monday evening. “The car was awesome and I really believe we had the best car out there. I could drive the car wherever I needed it to be. It worked just as good up high along the rail as it did tucked on the bottom. It just shows that Huey builds a great car and my crew really worked their tails off on Sunday, as they have all season. I was just bidding my time riding behind Steve (Shaver) and we popped the tire off on the cushion, or I really feel we could have had a shot at victory lane. I really want to thank Jim for this opportunity he has provided me with, I cannot wait for 2012 to get started” added Bare.
