Darren Ackerman benefit is Feb. 17 in Waverly
WAVERLY, Iowa (Jan. 25) – A benefit dinner, auction and dance will be held Friday, Feb. 17 for Darren Ackerman.
From Readlyn, the IMCA Late Model veteran was diagnosed with colon cancer last November. He started chemotherapy and radiation treatments in December and will next undergo surgery.
Funds raised at the benefit, at the Bremer County 4-H Building, 515 5th Avenue SW in Waverly, will be used to help defray medical expenses.
Social hour is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the dinner to follow. The silent auction closes and the live auction, conducted by fellow driver Greg Kastli, starts at 8 p.m. Music provided by a DJ wraps up the evening.
Tickets are available by calling April Clubine at 319 269-1340 or Courtney Buss at 319 240-9952. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 3-12 and free for two and under.
Anyone who wants to donate items for either auction can contact Clubine. A benefit account has been established at Veridian Credit Union.
A block of rooms as been reserved at the Super 8 Motel, 301 13th Avenue SW in Waverly (319 352-0888). Transportation will be available from the benefit to the motel.
Ackerman won track titles at Independence Motor Speedway in 2007 and 2009. He was also co-champion at Indee in 2004.
