Hesston Speedway Teams with 3 State Flyers & ULMS Series for Speedmonster Events

Hesston, PA -  Hesston Speedway, the 3 State Flyers and the ULMS Super Late Model Series will come together in the 2012 season as part of the Speedmonster Championship race series at “Motor Mountain.” The 5 Speedmonster events will pay out over $200,000 to the competing 5 divisions.

2012 will be the 4th season for the 3 State Flyers Series under the direction of Doug Timmons. Hesston has hosted 2 events to date. Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove, PA and Jeff Rine of Danville, PA captured the 2 previous 3 State Flyer wins at “Motor Mountain.” Jason Covert of York Haven, PA is the 3 time champion of the series. Speedmonster/3 State Flyer events at Hesston will have greater payoffs than the minimum 3 State Flyers payoff structure. 3 State Flyers will co-sanction the 1st four Speedmonster events. Information on the 3 State Flyers may be found at http://www.threestateflyers.com

The ULMS United Late Model Series is based out of the northern tier area and initiated with a rare Super Late Model event in central NY in 2000. Since then the series has grown into a strong region racing series with Chris Zuver at the helm. 2012 will mark the 1st-ever appearance of ULMS at Hesston as the series will become part of “The Ultimate.” Previous ULMS champions include Mike Knight of Ripley, NY, Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, PA, Bob Close of Eldred, PA, Todd Andrews of Eldred, PA, Rick Isadore of Cyclone, PA and Dick Barton of Ashville, NY. The website for ULMS is http://unitedlatemodelseries.com.

2012 marks Hesston’s 51st anniversary since the track was constructed in 1961. The track closed in the 70’s, and was re-opened in the 90’s. The track was repurchased by the Eriksen family in 2009 and has undergone mass renovation to become a showplace of clay track racing in the region.

The first Speedmonster/3 State Flyers event will be “Superthunder by the Lake” on Sunday May 27. This 51-lap Speedmonster/3SF Super Late Model event will pay $5,100 to the winner and $400 to start with $150 for non-qualifers. “Revolution 2012” on Tuesday, July 3 will showcase a 55-lap feature for the Speedmonster/3SF Super Late Models with the same strong $5,100 to win payoff. Jeff Rine won the exciting 51 lap feature over Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, PA at the 2011 July event.

The “Eriksen Grand Prix” on Saturday, August 4 is a tribute to Sonny & Peggy Eriksen that constructed the 4/10 mile supertrack. This Speedmonster/3SF event will pay $4,100 to win with $400 to start and $150 for non-qualifiers. “Mega-Blitz Mach 3” on Sunday, September 2 will utilize the thrilling twin features format with two 30 lap Speedmonster/3SF Super Late Model races paying a total of $5,100 to win, $400 to start and $150 for non-qualifiers. Jeremy Miller of Littlestown, PA and Ron Delano Jr. of Stoystown PA split the wins of the twin features format event in 2011.

“The Ultimate will be the 2012 grand finale for the Speedmonster Championship and the ULMS Series on Friday and Saturday, October 12-13. This mammoth event will pay $10,000 total to win for the Super Late Models with a full racing program each night. The “Moonsault Scramble” will pay $2,000 to win for a 40 lap Speedmonster Championship feature with “The Ultimate” paying $8,000 to win the 61 lap Speedmonster/ULMS Super Late Model feature.

“The Ultimate” was launched at the Challenger Raceway 90 miles to the west in 1995 and was Challenger’s marquee event until the track owner’s close the track for retirement after 2007. Hesston became the home of the event in 2011 and is utilizing all the key elements that made the event a massive success at Challenger. Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD won the event in 2011 with a late race pass over Jason Covert.

The Late Model Sportsman (limited/steel block/crate late models), Cadets (street/pro-stocks), Hobby-Modified (pure/strictly stock/charger) and Roadrunners (4 cylinder fwd) will be part of all Speedmonster events with bonus payoffs for those classes. The first 4 events are scheduled to pay $1,000 to win, $100 to start for Late Model Sportsman, $500 to win, $60 to start for Cadets, $300 to win, $40 to start for Hobby-Modified and $150 to win, $25 to start for Roadrunners. The “Challenger Super Championships” for these classes, which will take place on “The Ultimate” weekend of October 12-13 will pay at least double those amounts. The Hesston 2012 rules package for the Speedmonster events will make virtually every car in the region in those classes legal and competitive, utilizing weight breaks and/or spoiler variances to accomplish that goal.

The regular racing season will kick off on Saturday, May 12 with the “Ice Buster.” The PASS 305 Sprint cars will make their 1st appearance of 2012 on Saturday June 9 at the “Blade Runner” “Kidz Nite to Ride” on Saturday June 23 will feature race car rides and prizes for children. The Penn-Mar Vintage Cars will visit along with being a “Senior Gold” night where 2 senior citizens are admitted for the price of 1 in the grandstands with ID. “Motor Mountain Mayhem” on Saturday July 14 will be another Senior Gold night with the Penn-Mar Vintage Cars. “Kidz Wild Wheelz” on Saturday, July 21 will allow the kids to race on the 4/10 mile supertrack on their bikes along with great prize giveaways. The PASS 305 Sprints will return for “Sonic Flight” on Saturday August 18.

The “Dirt Driving Experience” has been scheduled for May 28, July 4 (if not needed for rain date) and September 3. This unique opportunity allows race fans to become race drivers as they receive training and laps in a real Super Late Model car. Full information on this program may be found at www.dirtdriving.com.

“Cycle-Rama” will take place on Saturday September 22. This 2-wheel event will feature motorcycle dirt drag racing on the front straight along with wheelie contest and a bike show. The “Motor Mountain Racer’s Flea Market & Swap Meet” will finish out 2012. All vendors and products are welcome to attend this event.

Reserved hillside parking spaces are currently on sale for 2012. Reserved regular season hillside spots in 2012 include 10 events from the “Ice Buster” to “Super Thunder by the Lake.” Reserved parking for “The Ultimate” and “Moonsault Scramble” in October will be available separately.

“Motor Mountain” is located in the scenic Raystown Lake and mountain country of central PA and provides a wonderful opportunity for race fans and race teams to make a complete weekend getaway when attending the racing events at Hesston. Promoter DR Eriksen has transformed Hesston into a showplace in just two short seasons, with additional improvements on the drawing board. Major expansions have given the track more seating, parking and pit space to accommodate these major events. All fans are provided an excellent view of the action, with grandstand seating and drive-in viewing built high above the racing surface. Hesston welcomes campers and now offers in track-camping on the back straight viewing ramp.
