Deery Series drivers chase Petersen Aluminum awards

by Bill Martin
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (March 14) – Petersen Aluminum embarks on a second decade as a sponsor for one of the Midwest’s premier tours, giving product awards to three drivers in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models.

The champion and rookie of the year, as well as the winner of the Sept. 3 main event during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Cenex, all receive 10 sheets aluminum from the Elk Grove, Ill., manufacturer.

Drivers must display two Petersen Aluminum decals on their race car to be eligible. Those decals will be available at all events in the 26th annual tour beginning on opening night Saturday, March 31 at Farley Speedway.

Petersen manufactures and sells painted aluminum and mill finish aluminum sheets, extrusions and stainless steel.

Information about those products and their racing applications is available at the www.pac-racing.com website or by calling 800 323-1960.

Ray Guss Jr. repeated as series champion in 2011 while Eric Sanders scored rookie of the year honors. Colby Springsteen reigned at Super Nationals.

"Mike Manno and his team at Petersen Aluminum have been great supporters of our Late Model division for a while now and we appreciate the continued relationship in 2012,” said IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder.

The Lake Zurich, Ill., manufacturer will award clutchless bellhousing kits to both the national IMCA Late Model champion and the top driver in the Deery Brothers Summer Series.

Second through 10th place drivers in both national and series point standings all receive $100 product certificates.

Quarter Master will also give a bellhousing kit to the national IMCA Modified rookie of the year and $100 certificates to the top two rookies in each of the five regions for the division.

All drivers must display two Quarter Master decals on their race car to be eligible. Modified drivers must also complete and return the rookie application form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1.

A total of $6,000 in product certificates will be given by the Roswell, Ga., company based on regional IMCA Modified standings and on national point standings for IMCA Late Models, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMods.

Top eligible drivers in each Modified region and in national Late Model, Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod standings get $350 product certificates.

Each runner-up receives a $250 certificate and third place drivers each get $150.

Drivers in all four divisions are required to compete with four Genesis-manufactured shocks, display two Genesis decals on their race car and return a signup form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1 to be eligible.

Certificates will be presented during the national awards banquet this November or mailed from the IMCA home office in December.

Ideal Ready Mix, WWJ Motorsports give new awards to Deery Series drivers

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 18) – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers are in the running for new awards this season from Ideal Ready Mix and WWJ Motorsports.

Hard chargers at each of the 21 events in the IMCA Late Model tour receive $100 product certificates, good toward the purchase of race parts from WWJ Motorsports.

Ideal Ready Mix Ironman Challenge cash bonuses of $99 go to drivers with perfect attendance through the first 16 events who qualify for each of the final five features, the Pepsi USA Nationals at 34 Raceway on Sept. 1, the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway Sept. 3, the Yankee Dirt Track Classic Sept. 14 and 15 at Farley Speedway, and Sept. 22 at Davenport Speedway.

The $99 dollar amount is in recognition of the car number of the late Johnny Johnson, who had owned the West Burlington-based concrete supplier as well as 34 Raceway.

“The bonuses are a great incentive to drivers to follow the series,” noted Ideal’s Wayne Johnson. “They can make close to $500 with perfect attendance and then qualifying for the feature each of the last five nights.”

“The Challenge replaces the Ironman race that been held late in the season,” he added, “because there aren’t any two-day shows on the schedule this year.”

All series drivers must display two Ideal Ready Mix decals to be eligible for hard charger or Challenge awards.

"The Johnson family has been instrumental in the advancement of the IMCA Late Model division and to continue our Ironman program with a new twist is really gratifying and a testament to their continuing dedication,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “Every driver following the entire series will now have the opportunity to receive the same bonus and it really exemplifies what being a true Ironman is all about.”

“We are thrilled with new partnership with Ideal Ready Mix and the chance to maintain Johnny's legacy," he concluded.

More information about the award program is available from Yoder at the IMCA home office, 319 472-2201.
