SLMR Series News Flash

When the SLMR series kicks off their fifth year of racing on Friday, April 6 at I-80 Speedway drivers will be racing for more than just the purse. They will be “Racing for the Safe.” The Malvernbank.com “Race for the Safe” to be exact. The 2012 SLMR Champion will be receiving the Safe at the end of the year. What will be in the Safe? A check for $3,500, representing the 2012 SLMR Champion’s share of the point fund.

“It seemed like a natural fit for our bank to align itself with the SLMR series,” comments Jay Burdic, President of the Malvern Trust & Savings Bank of Malvern, Iowa. “We have been associated with local dirt track racing since the 1980’s and felt this would be the perfect way to give back to a sport that has provided us with so many friendships and great memories over the past 30 years. The “Race for the Safe” is simply our way of saying thank you to the great fans and drivers of the SLMR series – many of whom we count as loyal customers of our bank today.”

Most of last year’s SLMR drivers and a few new faces are expected to complete for the 2012 SLMR Championship. Past Champions of the series include; Al Humphrey of Giltner in 2009, Mike Wiarda of Aurora in 2009, Kyle Berck of Marquette in 2010 and Travis Dickes of Madison in 2011.
