Owenby and Welshan take feature wins at Boyd's Speedway

Chattanooga, TN (4/20/12) ---  Lil' John Owenby of Cleveland, Tennessee added his name to the winners list of Boyd's Speedway taking the Steel-Head Late Model checkers Friday night at the Tennessee/Georgia border dirt track. The win, his first of the season came to the Tony Delay: Performance Race Engines #33 "Wamplers Auto Sales, Sam's Restaurant Equipment, Elliott's Used Cars & Tire Sales, M&S Motors, Smith Transport, CarSmart Auto Sales" sponsored GRT racer after battling Georgia's Pat Castleberry and hometown racer Tod Hernandez. The team will be racing at their home track Saturday; Cleveland (TN) Speedway seeking a weekend sweep like Georgia's Kevin Gibson did last weekend. For the 3rd time this season Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tennessee and the FLYIN' WELSHAN BRIGADE visited victory lane as the reigning Boyd's Speedway Crate Late Model Champion got his second consecutive win Friday night. The Hidden Hollow Motorsports #29 "B&M Concrete, Competition Racing Equipment, Ronald Sexton Construction, Centerline Construction, Bearden Oil, Hicks & Law Insurance, Jon's Golfcarts, Smith's Auto Repair, Schenfeld Headers, Stealth Racing Carburators, Outlaw Graphix" sponsored MasterSbilt / Bill Bunch powered Cindy & Roger Kerr, Gary Rofle owned racecar touted the Front Row Joe starting honors along with Georgia's Jeff Smith at the start of the 20-lap feature. The duo drag raced into the first two turns and even rubbed a little sheetmetal down the back-stretch before Welshan got the lead towards turn three. "After that it was all she wrote..." stated Welshan after the races. "I had about a half straight-away advantage at the end." Welshan seems well on his way in attempting to break his current win season record (of 29) set last year when he collected his track championship. The team has plans on returning to Cleveland (TN) Speedway Saturday seeking win #4 of the season. Welshan ran second last Saturday to Kevin Gibson and feels strong about his racecar on Cleveland's slick surface. Welshan's first victory of 2012 came three weeks ago at Crossville (TN) Raceway at their season opener event.
