Winners at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway on Sunday April 29 were Michael Norris, John Garvin, Mike Duritsky, Chase Evans and Todd Weldon
PITTSBURGH, PA (April 29) - In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Models, Michael Norris, Sarver PA grabbed his second win in as many weeks. Tony Musolino and Dennis Lunger brought the field down for the start. Musolino took the lead at the start and led the first six laps before the "Copperhead" John Garvin took over. Garvin led with Musolino not far behind. Meanwhile Norris, who had to start 12th, worked his way up to third by lap 12. Musolino grabbed the lead back from Garvin on lap 12, while Norris caught the lead pair in a great battle. Garvin got the lead back on lap 18, when Musolino got stuck in traffic, and Norris also got by. Jon Hodgkiss, who was running a strong 4th , spun in one and two bringing out the races only caution. On the restart Norris grabbed the lead and led the remaining laps to grab the win, his 4th career PPMS LM win. Garvin was second followed by Keith Barbara who charged from 18th, Musolino, Daryl Charlier, Jared Miley, Alex Ferree, Brandon Burgoon, Kari Gasser, and Ben Miley. Jared Miley and Daryl Charlier won the heats for the 19 cars on hand. Keith Barbara was the Awesome Hard Charger and Alex Ferree was the K&N Performer. The rescheduled Sportsman Spring Showdown in the Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Late Model Sportsman saw Mike Duritsky, Uniontown, PA win his first ever PPMS feature, and picked up $700 for the win in the 20 lap main. The first lap saw Wayne Carbo tag the wall and collected defending track champ Jake Simmons, knocking Simmons out of the event. Newcomer Colt Gearhart led the first lap, with Mike Duritsky taking over on lap 2. Duritsky weathered several restarts and held off Nick Kocuba and Pat Weldon for the win. The front trio were followed by Jason Humanic, Curt Bish, Jason Herniak, Brett McDonald, Colton Gearhart, Wayne Carbo and Mitch Wattelet. The heats saw Colt Gearhart and Pat Weldon picking up heat wins. Brett McDonald was the event K&N Performer. The Brougher's Machine Shop Pro Late Fastrak Crates had Sarver PA's John Garvin grabbing his first PPMS Crate win. Tommy Schirnhofer Jr. grabbed the lead at the start and led the first four laps with Garvin taking over on lap 5. From that point on the race was all Garvin's as he held off a mid race challenge from PPMS hot shoe Kyle Lukon, to pull away for the win. Lukon was second followed by Schirnhofer, Will Thomas (in only his second PPMS start), Laura Lukon, Mike Reft, Josh Holtgraver, Mark Moats, Ricky Meglaye, and Mike Pegher Jr. (who started last). The heats fell to Ron Hall, Kyle Lukon and Tom Schirnhofer Jr. for the 27 cars on hand. The K&N Performer was Josh Holtgraver In the Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks, Bethel Park PA's Chase Evans grabbed his first ever win. Evans was followed by Eric Goldberg, Joe Podolinsky, Tyler Fox, Ed Wiser and Zack Stehle. Chase Evans also won the heat. Picking up the K&N Performer award was Tyler Fox. The Imperial Heights Garage DIRTcar Young Guns defending champ Todd Weldon, Monongahela, PA, grabbed his second win of the season, over Bernie Blair Jr., Logan Crewl, Adam Carson and Courtney Chamberlain. Christian Schneider had a hard hit in the turn one wall and it took him out of the main. Courtney Chamberlain was the K&N Performer. Effective now, in the event of any Saturday rainout/postponement the management will utilize a Sunday evening raindate. Times for the Sunday evening will start 1 hour earlier, with Gates opening at 4:00PM, Hot Laps at 5:00PM, and Racing at 6:00PM. Upcoming at PPMS on May 5, the Penn National UFO/ULMS Showdown 51 Laps for $5000 for the Super Late Models, plus a regular show for the other classes. On May 12, the NAPA night receipts will be honored, and the rained out April 25 Spring Sizzler for the Pro Late Fastrak Crates will be run, along with a complete regular show. Regular shows consist of the Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, (Crates), Late Model Sportsman, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns.
