ULMS/UFo battle in PENNational 51 at Pittsburgh's PA Motor SpeedwayPITTSBURGH, PA - May 3, 2012 - The stars of the UFo and Kennedy Motorsports ULMS Super Late Model Series' are slated to battle for the PENNational 51 crown this Saturday, May 5th at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The winner of the event will take home the $5,000.00 first place prize money.
"We are looking forward to the first Super Series event for the Late Model competitors," commented speedway owner Matt Miley. "Last week's feature event was fantastic as Michael Norris, John Garvin, Tony Musolino and Keith Barbara battled each other in a fantastic feature event. We are expecting more of the same this weekend as Jason Covert, Gregg Satterlee and several other top Late Model competitors are expected to be in attendance."
Last year's event featured twin 28-lap feature events that saw Mike Johnson and Michael Davis share the winnings. John Flinner captured the event in 2009 and was also a co-champion in 2010 as he and Mike Johnson split the PENNational laurels.
Thus far in 2012, third generation driver Michael Norris has claimed both Super Late main events and is the early favorite to claim the PENNational. Other PPMS regulars expected to contend for the win include Mike Johnson, Brandon Burgoon, Dennis Lunger, Alex Ferree and Jared Miley. The Kennedy Motorsports ULMS Series will be led by their defending champion Mike Knight. In addition to Knight, Matt Lux, Ron Davies and Denny Fenton will lead the Northern Tier drivers. Barbara, who scored a third place finish last Sunday, will lead the UFo contingent that is expected to include Chad McClelland, Devin Friese and Coleby Frye.
A complete program for the Pro-Lates, Late Model Sportsman, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns will round out the evening's racing action.
Gates will open at 5:00 with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00 PM. Adult admission will be $20 with Seniors $19, Juniors 13-16 $10, Children 6-12 $5. Pit admission will be $35.
In the event that inclement weather forces the cancellation of Saturday racing action in 2012 PPMS will use Sunday evening as the raindate. Times for the Sunday events only are as follows: Grandstand and Pit Admission Gates will open at 4:00PM, Hot Laps will begin at 5:00PM and Racing action will begin promptly at 6:00PM.
Fans are also invited to bring their own refreshments however; glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. In addition coolers are limited to 14 inches or smaller in size. And don't forget that the Checkered Flag Food Court has a great variety of amusement park munchies like monster chicken wings, grilled chicken sandwiches, juicy hamburgers, Pizza Hut pizza and cotton candy at "fan friendly prices."
