Billets Finish 1-2 in SSP’s Late Model Main Event on Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (May 5, 2012) – The Susquehanna Speedway Park finally beat the rain on the third try in as many weeks this past Saturday night.  York’s Carl Billet won the 25-lap Late Model feature event with his 55th career SSP Late Model win.  Doug Bennett of Chambersburg scored his first Street Stock feature of 2012.  Chad Stine of York was victorious in the Xtreme Stock Car feature event.  York Haven’s Daryl Sipe bested the field in the Road Warriors with Butch Richcreek, also from York Haven, winning the Pro Sign and Design Mini Van feature.  Marysville’s Scott Houdeshell won the Legends Cars 20-lapper.      
 
In Late Model action, Chase Billet grabbed the early lead from the pole position.  Outside front row starter, Carl Billet took the lead on lap 10.  After a few caution flag periods, Carl Billet retained the lead with Chase Billet in close pursuit.  At the end, it was Carl Billet winning over his nephew Chase.  Justin Ehrhart finished a strong third with Randy Christine Jr. and Billy Wampler rounding out the top five.  Chris Knopp won the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award moving up 15 spots from a 24th place starting spot to finish ninth.  Chase Billet, Carl Billet and J.R. Rodriguez were the heat race winners.
 
Doug Bennett grabbed the early lead of the 20-lap Street Stock feature and never looked in the rear view mirror to claim the victory.  Scoot Thunberg and Randy Zechman challenged for the top spot, but could not make the winning pass and settled for second and third place respectively.  Jim Palm Jr. finished fourth, followed by Jasen Geesaman in fifth.  Thunberg, Bennett and Don Zechman were heat race victors.
 
Chad Stine wired the field from the start to win the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event over Johnny Palm.  Adma Smith finished third with Patrick McClane and Davey Nester rounding out the top five.  Tom Hartman was the Madison House Hard Charger by going from an 11th place starting spot to finish in 8th.  Heat races were claimed by Smith and Stine.
 
Daryl Sipe won the 15-lap Road Warriors feature event by leading every lap of the race.  Curt McDade finished second, followed by Gary Grim.  Dennis Dorosz and Dino Pitcher rounded out the top five.  McDade won the heat race.
 
The 10-lap Pro Signs & Design Mini Van feature event began with Anthony Roberts grabbing the early lead.  Roberts relinquished the lead on lap 3 to Butch Richcreek who went on to win the race over Roberts.  Al Kessock finished third with Donny Groff and Zakari Kitner rounding out the top five.  Richcreek also won the qualifying heat race.
 
Scott Houdeshell led from start to finish, winning the 20-lap Legends Cars feature event.  Harlon Leppo finished second, followed by Bill Diehl, Richard Miller and Greg Burd.  Houdeshell and Leppo each won their qualifying heat races.
 
Racing action returns to the Big Track on Saturday night, May 12 featuring the first –ever visit of Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series taking on the SSP Late Models in a $1500 to-win feature event.  Also racing will be the Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Sidewinder Sprints and the Women on Wheels Mini Vans.  The pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m.  Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m.  Warm-ups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.    
 
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the special event on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $15.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $13.00; Children (10 & under) are free.  Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders.  The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.
