Frank makes return visit to Late Model victory lane at Lernerville Speedway
SARVER, PA (May 18) There’s nothing quite like the Armed Forces to get the blood pumping and with the U.S. Marines, the National Guard and a group of veterans roll in 20 deep on Harley Davidsons (Thank you Legion Riders Post 18 from Slickville!) all on hand in the same night, it’s hard not to be proud to be an American, enjoying the freedom of another Fast Friday of Fab Four Racing! Eric Gabany started the night’s feature action by capturing the Approved Toilet Rental Small Block Showcase Modified feature over a hardcharging “Tugboat” Lonnie Riggs. Chub Frank beat the Johnson Brothers (Mike and Davey) to win his second consecutive Precise Late Model feature. Danny Holtgraver picked up his first feature win of the season in the Ti22 Sprints carrying the #CIII on his wing for Rod George whom suffered a badly damaged chassis last Saturday Night at the All Start Circuit of Champions Sprint feature at Mercer Raceway Park. The Pic-A-Part Sportsman feature was a barnburner again with Terry Young picking up his second win of the season after battling Corey McPherson and Pat Hanley.
Per new redraw procedures, last week’s feature winner Chub Frank started the Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Models feature from 10th on the starting grid while the Brothers Johnson led a pair of laps each in the first four circuits. Mike Johnson took the early lead from the outside pole only to relinquish the lead to brother Davey (a.k.a. “The Juice”) on lap three. A handful of cautions including a three-car pile-up in turn four on a lap three restart that saw Dan Swartzlander get airborne almost perfectly perpendicular with the race track after contact with Jason Rider and Scott Gunn. All drivers were okay, but the cars weren’t as fortunate.
When the action resumed, Davey Johnson took the lead from brother Mike, while Chub Frank, (whom had restarted fourth), rocketed down across the top of turn two and into second place as the leaders entered turns three & four. He appeared ready to take the lead off the top of turn two the following lap, but slid off the top of the backstretch, but that was only a temporary setback as he blasted around the top cushion in three & four to take the lead from Davey Johnson at the flagstand. Throughout the next 20 laps, Chub took turns stretching out the lead with Davey reeling him back in. The final caution of the race waved on lap 15 when Tony Musolino sailed off the top of turn four. The restart was only a formality as Chubzilla rocketed off turn four as he took the green flag and was never again seriously challenged for his second straight feature win as he heads off to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series trail next weekend.
Davey Johnson followed Frank the whole way to the checkered flag to finish second, while Alex Ferree ran another stout race to finish third ahead of Bud Points leader Jared Miley in fourth. Chad Valone rounded out the Precise Top Five ahead of Mike Johnson, Lynn Geisler, John Garvin Jr., Chuck Sarver and Bump Hedman. Heat races were checkered by Mike Johnson and Alex Ferree. Before racing to fourth in the feature, Jared Miley finished second in the B-Main, which was won by John Mollick in his 2012 debut.
