Billet Claims 56th Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (May 19, 2012) – York’s Carl Billet collected his 56th career SSP victory by winning the 20-lap Late Model feature event on Saturday Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on York County racing Club Night.  Doug Bennett of Chambersburg won the 20-lap Street Stock feature, his third straight victory in the class.  Cameron Benyou of New Cumberland won his first Xtreme Stock Car feature of the season.  York Haven’s Daryl Sipe won the Road Warrior 15-lapper.  Mt. Wolf’s Anthony Roberts won the 10-lap Pro Sign & Design Mini Van feature event.  Aaron Brommer of Auburn continued his dominance at SSP by winning the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature event.  
 
The 25-lap Late Model feature began with rookie driver J.R. Rodriguez jumping out the lead from his front row starting spot.  SSP Kingpin Carl Billet moved into the runner-up spot on lap 5 when Chase Billet retired from the race with mechanical failure.  Billet stalked Rodriguez lap after lap and finally made his move to the high side on lap 16.  The pass for the lead finally worked on lap 19 and Billet then set sail for the checkers and the win.  Rodriguez had to settle for a strong second place finish followed by the hard charging Randy Christine Jr. who came from a 14th starting spot to finish third.  John Moser Jr. came across the line in fourth, followed by Justin Ehrhart who also came feom idpack to finish fifth.  Tommy Slanker won the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award moving up 15 spots from a 19th place starting spot to finish sixth.  Moser, Rodriguez and Carl Billet were the heat race winners.  Tommy Slanker won the consolation race.
 
In Street Stock action, Jim Palm Jr. took the early lead with Doug Bennett taking the top spot on the fifth circuit.  Bennett was pursued closely by the trio of Palm, Randy Zechman and Mike Zeigler Jr., but Bennett never faltered and claimed the 20-lapper for the Street Stocks.  Randy Zechman was the runner-up with Mike Zeigler Jr. close behind in third.  Jim Palm Jr. finished strong in fourth.  Scott Thunberg was involved in a mid-race accident and came from the rear to finish fifth.  Thunberg and Zechman were heat race victors.
 
The 2011 SSP Xtreme Stock Car track champion Cameron Benyou wired the field from the start to win the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event over Adam Smith.  Patrick McClane finished third.  Donnie Broderick was the Madison House Hard Charger by going from a 10th place starting spot to finish in fourth.  Johnny Palm rounded out the top five.  Heat races were claimed by Smith and Broderick.
 
Anthony Roberts led from start to end and picked up his first career Pro Sign & Design Mini Van feature victory over Donny Groft.  John Kitner came across the finish line in third, followed by Jeremy Haines in fourth with Marcus Groft rounding out the top five.  Al Kessock was the heat race victor.  

In the non-stop 15-lap Road Warrior feature, Daryl Sipe bested the field by leading all 15 laps and setting a new record in a time of six minutes and 3.01 seconds.  Curt McDade finished in the runner-up spot followed by Dennis Dorosz in third.  Adam Peter and Thomas Thompson finished fourth and fifth respectively.  Daryl Sipe won the heat race as well.  
 
Aaron Brommer took the lead on the start and never looked back to win the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Cars feature over Fred Krickbaum.  Rick Pastor, Stew Wenrich and Paul Hoffman rounded out the top five finishing third through fifth respectively.  
 
Racing action returns to the Big Track on Saturday night, May 26 with the 21a Memorial Day Championships honoring the late Mike Zeigler Sr.  Racing action will feature 21-lap feature races for the Late Models ($1,0000-to-win), Street Stocks ($700-to-win) and the Xtreme Stock Cars ($500-to-win)  Also racing will be the Road Warriors, Mini Vans and Classic Cars.  The pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m.  Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.  Warm-ups begin at 6:40 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.    
 
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the special event on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free.  Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders.  The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.
