Hawkins and Thomas go Topless for the wins at Tyler Co. SpeedwayMIDDLEBOURNE, W.V. (May 19) - Topless Terror invaded the Bullring Saturday night as the Edge Adrenaline Tour for crate motor Late Models and the thrice rescheduled 18th annual 50 for the Super Late Models were on the docket. Plus making the Topless 50 and the Modifieds a qualifier for Memorial Day weekends Jackpot 100 for the Lates and Let Ride 55 for the Mods.
For the Wagon Wheel Bar and Grill Super Late Models, Tim Dohm motoring the Dohm Cycles / Finish 1 Auto Supply #6T tripped the clock the quickest with a time of 12.95 seconds. After inverting the top four, Paul Wilmoth J.r,Jacob Hawkins and Brandon Shepherd scored the heats while Donnie Dotson snared the consey. At the outset Wilmoth, Hawkins, Shepherd, Keith Barbara, and Eddie Carrier Jr. quickly took the top five slots. On lap one, Jared Hawkins made contact with Barbara sending Barbara around in turn three. Jared would be sent to the tail as the race resumed. The green waved again as Wilmoth was getting heavy pressure from Jacob Hawkins as the two raced door to door. On lap five Hawkins wrestled the lead from Wilmoth. Hawkins began to encounter traffic by lap 10 just as Shepherd took second on the next go round. A yellow slowed action on lap 13, and on the restart Mike Marlar snared third away from Wilmoth. Dohm also got around Wilmoth on lap 16. The younger Hawkins continued to show the way holding Shepherd and Marlar behind him. But eyes shifted back in the field as the elder Hawkins had clawed from the tail to fifth by lap 23. As the half way signal was being given, Marlar pulled even with Shepherd for second. On lap 26 Marlar secured the spot and set sail for Jacob. Marlar turned up the heat and was able to pull side by side with Jacob on lap 40. Three late yellows hampered Marlars efforts but Hawkins was poised enough to fend off Marlars attacks. On the final circuit Marlar bonzied under Hawkins but couldn’t make it stick. For Hawkins driving the St. Henry Night Club / C & R Sanning #20, it was his biggest career win. Marlar, Shepherd, Jared Hawkins and Corey Conley completed the top five. Jacob Hawkins also garnered a spot in the $25,000 to win World of Outlaw Jackpot 100 on May 26.
The United Rental Industrial Division Edge crate motor Late Model also were Topless as the second night of the Edge Adrenaline Tour. Michael Griffin, Derek Rogers and Danny Thomas were the prelim victors. Unfortunately the yellow onslaught the plagued the race at Elkins the night before followed them. After four tries at green, Griffin, Rogers, Thomas, Kris Southern and John Watson took the front spots. The caution waved on laps one, two, and five to halt the action. But when the green did appear Thomas began his assent to the front as he took second on lap three and then battled with Griffin for the lead. The front duo raced door to door as Thomas gained the advantage on lap eight. With time limited quickly evaporating, Rogers slipped by Griffin on lap 14. The clock expired setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Ironically on lap 20, their regular distance. Thomas with Wable Ford / and Captain Richards Hometown Steak & Buffett adoring the side of his #7Jr gained his first win in the crate motor class. Griffin was able to get back around Rogers for second. Kyle Thomas and Watson were fourth and fifth.
In what was now a qualifier for the $5,000 to win Let It Ride 55 to be held May 26 for the 2 Brothers Motorsports. After Gerald Deitch, Travis Dickson and Mark Dickson grabbed checkers in the heats, Travis shot to the point and never looked back in the finale. While T. Dickson was showing the way Kyle Strickler drove from Mooresville North Carolina to start eighth in the feature and pass his way to challenge Deitch for second. Dickson got the checkerboard, as Deitch and Strickler got together at the stripe with Strickler getting the nod for second. Tommy Powell raced from eleventh to fourth and M. Dickson rounded out the top five. The Fannin Farms / A & M Commodities #16 machine of T. Dickson now has a spot in the Let It Ride 55.
In the Bridgeport Equipment and Tool Hot Mods, Kenny “Radar” Isner lead flag to flag to capture his first win of the year. Mike Conkle made a late pass on Travis Thomas for a second place finish. As Steve West was fourth and fifth went to Chad Dotson. Isner sports Mike’s Auto Body and Norris Tire on the #7 machine.
A wild finish in the Herrington Yoak Ford Mod Lites had race long leader Jeff Fornash fending off a charge from Josh Baldwin. As the two exited turn four Baldwin got underneath Fornash as the two made contact sending Fornash into a roll. Fornash climbed from his Richard Webb Construction / Mutschelknaus Oil & Gas #99 unhurt, and although did not cross the line, was given the win. Brandon Fluharty, Zack Watson, Tracy Fritter and James Watson filled out the top five.
Donnie Wamsley added his fourth straight Custom Engraving 4 cylinder feature. David Bunnell, Jason Frazier, Rickie Wright, and Billy Bunnell crossed behind.
In the Mini Wedges Travis Thomas provided the trophies this week as Alec Frazier held off Wesley baker in the first feature. Brandon Weigle, Trey Watson and Kaitlyn Frazier were third through fifth.
