UNOH All Star Late Model Series kicks off at Ohio's Hilltop Speedway Saturday

by Brian Liskai
CAMARGO, IL (5-23-12) Dirt track racing is one of the most exciting, fast-paced forms of entertainment in the world. And now more residents in the Midwest will be able to experience that fun and excitement as the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Late Model Series will be on part of a television series. It all kicks off Saturday, May 26 at Hilltop Speedway near Millersburg, Ohio.

The Hilltop Speedway event featuring the UNOH All Star Late Model Series will pay the feature winner $5,000 ($300 just to start the A-main).

?We shot a pilot event for Sports Time Ohio (a Cleveland area regional cable television company) during the Spring Nationals sprint car event at Attica in April. The television folks liked it so much we are looking at creating television series involving our late model series,? said Guy Webb.

The UNOH All Star Late Model Series event at Hilltop comes a day after the World of Outlaws Late Model Series competes at the nearby NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway.

Last year the UNOH All Star Late Model Series ran several events with ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Donnie Moran claiming the series title over Eddie Carreir Jr.; Jared Miley, Bryan Casey, Devin Moran, Boom Briggs, Russ Frohnaphel, Russ King, Rod Conley and Robbie Blair.

Hilltop Speedway is a 3/8th-mile, high banked oval that runs every Saturday and features the Holmes Tire Late Models. So far in 2012, feature winners have been Shane McLoughlin, George ?The General? Lee (2 wins), and Devin Moran (2 wins).

Two years ago when the UNOH All Star Late Models were at Hilltop Speedway, Waterford, Pa.?s Dave Hess was the winner, he has also won a regular feature in both late models and modifieds at Hilltop. Last seasons UNOH All Star Late Model champion Donnie Moran and his son Devin, who has won the first two features at Hilltop this year, are expected in to hold off Hilltop regulars George Lee, Doug Drown, Ryan Markham, Charlie Duncan, Steve Prince, Dave Hornikel and all the usual tough Hilltop Late Model drivers.

'Hilltop is an exciting track and the racing there this year has been spectacular from what the fans have told us. I have to thank promoter Jesse Wadell and his family for kicking off our series and what we know will be entertaining television,' added Webb.

Pit gates will open Saturday at Hilltop at 3 p.m. with the grandstands gates opening at 4 p.m. Qualifying will be around 5:45 p.m. with racing underway at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are as affordable as $15 with pit passes at $30.

The UNOH All Star Late Model Series will have an open tire rule. The feature event will be 40 laps and fans will be entertained with the door-banging, Delaware Double Fire Restarts on the high banks of Hilltop Speedway.
