Southern All Stars Visit Mississippi For Memorial Day Weekend Events

HUNTSVILLE, AL (May 23)—The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will return this Saturday & Sunday night May 26th & 27th for a pair of Super Late Model events for a big Memorial day weekend or acing that last year was one of the biggest during the Southern All Star season.

On Saturday May 26th the cars and stars of the Huntsville, AL based Southern All Stars will invade Rodney Wing’s Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS for a 40-lap $3,500 to win / $300 to start event.  During the 2011 series visit to Whynot, Klint Byars of Calhoun City, MS took home $5,000 during his only career SAS event win.

On Sunday May 27 the SAS Late Models will invade Johnny Stokes’ 3/8th’s mile Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS for the 50-lap $5,000 to win / $300 to start Coca-Cola Governor’s Cup event, also a lone visit to ‘The Mag’ for 2012. During the 2011 series visit, Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, GA claimed the $5,000 victory over Chris Wall and Chip Brindle.

Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, who is looking for his third SAS title in 2012 leads the contingent of SAS travelers into the Magnolia State on Memorial Day Weekend holding a 22 point gap over Friendsville, TN driver Mike Weeks, who is setting his sights on a Rookie of the Year and Championship title for 2012. Weeks claimed the 2010 Volunteer STARS Racing Series Championship. So far, there have been four different winners in the first four events as Jimmy Owens claimed the Shamrock win on April 7, Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN claimed the $5,000 event win at Smoky Mountain Speedway while William Thomas claimed the $3,500 win during NASCAR weekend at the Talladega Short Track and Skip Arp claimed his first SAS win since August 2008 at Cleveland (TN) Speedway on May 12th.

Drivers that are expected to be in action include William Thomas, Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TB., Dylan Ames of Harvest, AL., Todd Morrow of East ridge, TN., Tony Knowles of Tyrone, GA., David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS., Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, MS., Leon Henderson of Laurel, MS., Scott Creel of Franklinton, LA., Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS., and Rodney Wing of Whynot, MS., plus many more drivers.

Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series Tire Rule Adjustment For Whynot & Magnolia Events

HUNTSVILLE, AL—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will be adjusting the tire rules for this weekend for the events set for the Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night May 26th and the Magnolia Speedway on Sunday night May 27th.

The series which utilizes the Hoosier tire only rule in all Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series events will this weekend allow the Hoosier LM 40 tire to compete, along with the 1300, 1350, 1450, 1600, Crate 21-55 and the D70 right rear option.

We hope to see everyone this weekend in Mississippi for the big Memorial Day Weekend event.
