Randy Weaver rallies from 12th to win BJ Parker Memorial and $4,700 at Talladega Short Track
by Chris Tilley EASTABOGA, AL (June 23, 2012)—Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN is wanting a third Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series championship.
Weaver’s $4,700 victory at Talladega Short Track was his third this season on the 30th year tour has padded his points lead putting him back into contention to win a third championship. Weaver started back in the 12th spot and rallied from that position to take the lead from William Thomas on the 31st lap and go on to hold off a hard charging Jason Heitt for the victory. William Thomas held on to third while Jake Knowles came from 15th to fourth and Tim Busha overcame going to the tail to finish fifth.
The two time SAS champion Randy Weaver won $3,500 for the victory but claimed the bonus for leading lap 42 of $1,200 while driving the Outlaw Race Products sponsored Cornett Racing Engines powered GRT Race Car to the win.
William Thomas and Adam Martin led the field of 24 to the green flag for the start of the 50-lapper with a great crowd on hand for the night. Thomas jumped to the early lead as only four yellow flags slowed the event.
The first yellow was on lap eight as Matt Dooley slowed in turn four. The second yellow came on the restart as Tim Busha spun the leader William Thomas and was sent to the tail. The next yellow came on the 36th lap as Adam Martin spun in turn two and the final yellow was on the 44th lap as Ross Martin had a flat tire and slowed on the back stretch.
The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will be off until Saturday Night July 14th when the series rolls into the Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN for the third appearance of the season paying $3,500 to win during the Stars and Stripes 40 event.
