Michael Head Jr. Memorial up next for Southern All Stars on July 28th at Talladega by Chris Tilley
HUNTSVILLE, AL (July 18, 2012)—The 15th Annual running of the Michael Head Jr. Memorial will be on Saturday Night July 28th at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will again sanction the event as it will pay $3,500 to win. There will be a complete show of Practice, Time Trials, Last Chance Showdowns and the 40-lap main event. The event honors Michael Head Jr., son of veteran Late Model racer and legend Mike Head of Ellenwood, GA who was murdered in Atlanta in what is still an unsolved crime.
During the series’ last visit to Talladega back on May 5th, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL would claim his second career SAS Late Model win and $3,500 in a thrilling race win over Georgia’s Jake Knowles and Kentucky’s Brandon Kinzer. Then on June 23rd during the B.J. Parker Memorial Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN captured the $3,500 event win rallying from the 12th starting position.
On Saturday July 28, the pit and grandstand gates will swing open at 5:00 p.m. with the Drivers Meeting at 6:30 p.m. then Hot Laps are slated for 7:00 p.m. all times CDT. Adult Grandstand Admission is $15.00 with children nine and under admitted Free. Pit Passes will be $30.00. Support divisions will also be on hand that night.
Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN leads the SAS Championship contingent into Talladega for the third series visit of 2012 over Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN, Shan Smith of Dade City, FL third, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL fourth and Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville fifth in series points.
