Miller Makes It a Clean Sweep in Ernie Jones Memorial at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (August 4) - Gettysburg’s Jeremy Miller made it a clean sweep in winning the 22-lap, $2200 to win, Ernie Jones Memorial for the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Models. Miller set fast time, won his heat, the dash and then led all 22 laps to score his first feature win of the season. Miller earned $2644 for his winning effort. Also picking up wins were Bobby Cossell and Mike Lewis (High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Models), Denny Perigo (Modifieds), Todd Dennis (Krause Electric Street Stocks), Kenny Burkholder (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers) and Steve Settle (Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners). The big event was sponsored by Bobby Lake Motorsports, High Gear Speed Shop Chuck Harper Racing, Touchdown City Motors, Stone House Restaurant, Newt’s York Bar, Three Mules Welding, Mort’s Graphics, Roy Anderson, Denise Hollidge, Hoosier Tire, Lias Tire American Racer, Arsenberger Trucking and Butch Hunt Ford.

Although he led all 22 laps, Jeremy Miller didn’t have any time to relax in the 22 lap Ernie Jones Memorial. Heat winner Miller won the dash and earned the pole starting spot. Miller out dragged Jared Hawkins into turn one at the drop of the green. Miller hugged the inside as Hawkins rode the rim lap after lap trying to make the pass before breaking on lap eight and putting the #37 pit side. On the restart Miller took off but could not shake David Williams. Williams challenged Miller relentlessly and looked like he was setting him up for the winning pass. As they crossed the line on lap 17 Williams charged into turn one and jumped the cushion with a flat tire sending him into the wall and ending his great run. When the green dropped Tim Senic was now on Miller’s tail. Senic, who came from ninth, pressured Miller to the checker. After the drivers took the white flag on lap 21 the whole field dropped to the bottom of the track and let Scott Rhodes pass them and take the honorary win for Ernie Jones. Rhodes’ car was painted up and renumbered 22 to resemble one of Ernie’s cars. Senic was credited with second followed by Mason Zeigler, Devin Friese, Bob Gordon, Mike Lupfer, Ron Delano, Jr., Scott Rhodes, Danny Mitchell and Billy Holbert (from 23rd). Heats paying $222 to win each for the 33 car field were won by Miller, Williams, Hawkins and Bob Gordon. Charlie Schaffer won the B-Main and received a free American Racer Tire.
