FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 8, 2012 ________________________________________
2012 Carolina Clash Round #7 Approaches as Teams Return to Action at The Daytona of Dirt Carolina Clash race #24 all-time at Madison, NC track.
By Mark Huey Racing fans in the northwestern piedmont of North Carolina have yet another chance to get their "super-dirt" on as the action cranks up at the 311 Motor Speedway, denoted as the "Daytona of Dirt!" Located within short driving distance from the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad regional areas, 311 Motor Speedway will give racing fans plenty to talk about when they host race #7 of the Carolina Clash 2012 season this weekend.
The stars of the Carolina Clash are ready to tackle the "Daytona of Dirt" this Saturday, August 11 for a $4,000 to win feature event. The race this Saturday marks the second of three trips to 311 Speedway for the Carolina Clash this season.
Steve and Blake Stultz recently took over the control of track operations at 311 Motor Speedway. They have all intentions of returning 311 to the status of its former glory.
"It has to be one of the finest facilities on the east coast," said Mr. Steve Stultz in a phone interview on Monday. "I have learned a lot about the sport in the last three weeks that I never knew, and I have been around this place pretty much all of my life. There is so much to running a race track that many people take for granted, but I assure you, this place will be ready to race when the Clash haulers roll in on Saturday. I know that Blake, Ray and Randy, along with the rest of my great staff, are going to put 100% effort to making this a huge night of racing for all divisions."
2009 Carolina Clash champion Jeff Smith, of Dallas, NC, 5-time series champion Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, NC, and 2010 and 2011 champion Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, are the most recent winners at 311 Motor Speedway with Carolina Clash. Smith ended a season-long drought at the October 2011 event with the victory, but not without having to hold off hard-charging Luke Roffers, the most recent Carolina Clash winner. Ricky Weeks also won a non-sanctioned race there last October.
Jeff Smith captured his only win of the season thus far at the 311 season opener in an action-packed thrilling race. Look for Jeff Smith and all of the Carolina Clash stars to be in attendance as they prepare to make late season advances in the 2012 points standings, in preparation or the Roush-Yates/JE Pistons Championship Chase. Luke Roffers has been very strong in recent events with Carolina Clash, posting three wins, a 2nd, and 3rd in his last five outings. He currently sits atop the points standings for the Carolina Clash with 202 points. Also, Johnny Pursley is looking for his first win of the season as he sits second in points at 187. He has indicated his intent to race, along with the most of the 14 out of the top 20 drivers who are still eligible for the chase for the championship. Jeff Smith is third in points and Ricky Weeks is fourth, with two wins on the season. Scott Autry, a former 311 winner from 2002, sits fifth in points. All are looking to rebound from disappointing finishes at I-77 Speedway in July.
Michael Marlowe plans to be in action, along with Wayne Hughes, as both drivers are locked in a tight battle for the 2012 Rookie-of-the-Year competition. Each is still eligible for the chase for the championship, and is solidly in the top 10 in points.
Come out and enjoy this cherished pastime in the foothills of the Eastern Blue Ridge, where the roots of North Carolina racing run deep and the thrills of cars in chasing roar are now appearing on-stage at the ringed-coliseum of historic lore! No doubt, it's race-day at 311 and you are invited to COME GET YOUR DIRT ON!!!
Driver Registration will begin at 5:00pm. The drivers' meeting will be held promptly at 6pm and hot laps will start at 6:30 pm. All competitors are reminded that transponders are required for use in competition at all 2012 events.
"We have every intention of getting this show started early and getting finished at a decent hour in order for the Clash drivers and our teams and fans to get on the road home early," Stultz stated.
No doubt about - 311 will be ready!
311 plans to run their weekly Fastrak GM Performance Late Models for a 25-lap main event, featuring 2-lap qualifying to determine the running order. Also on the car will be the 311 Motor Speedway Limited Sportsman class with a 20-lap main, the 311 Four Cylinders and U-Cars will also be in attendance.
311 Motor Speedway is located on US Highway 311 North, in Pine Hall, NC, which is near Madison, NC, adjacent to the Stokes/Rockingham County line.
The three-race swing will curve back around to the southwestern piedmont region as they move to Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC for the 40th annual Gaston County Shrine 100 Benefit Race on Tuesday night, August 14th, before ending the regular season at Fayetteville on August 18th.
