Logue wins 3rd Annual Shrine 50 at Macon Speedway

MACON, IL (August 25) -  If the event was called the ‘Shrine 55’ the title may have been called ‘Matt Taylor Wins Shrine 50, but with only a 50-lap event, Logue held off the challenging Taylor en route to the third Shrine 50 in Macon Speedway history. Following the event, car owner Keith Brown donated all of the first prize winnings back to Shriners Children’s Hospital in honor of Kid’s Castle.

Winner of the 2nd Annual Shrine 50 last season, Logue blasted out to the lead early in the feature and weaved his way through the lapped traffic to take two-in-a-row of the annual event. Logue started front row outside and rode the high groove for nearly the entire race. Matt Taylor was game up top but not enough to overtake Logue. Taylor did, however, add to his points lead in the Late Model division. Coming into the evening with a short two-point cushion over Greg Kimmons, Taylor’s second place finish along with Kimmon’s sixth place result helped add to the lead and the chance at being the 2012 track champion.

The racing for third-through-fifth was also as good as the race for the lead with John Beck, the pole-sitter, Ryan Little and Brian Diveley. The cars finished in that order.

The engines revved as Decatur’s Irena Yeakley gave the command to have drivers start their engines and after 50 laps, Logue was the winner for the fourth time at Macon Speedway in 2012. The race was completed in 20 minutes with only 4 caution flags. Ninth place finisher Joseph Hughes donated his check ($150) to the Shriners.
