Mike Marlar Pockets $3k Payday at Lake Cumberlandby Ben Shelton
Winfield, Tennessee (09/19/12) – Mike Marlar originally planned to not race anywhere over the course of last weekend due to his new #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket Chassis Super Late Model not yet being ready for action. However, at the last minute Mike would prepare his own #1CJ CJ Rayburn Super Late Model for a pair of events in Kentucky. The last minute decision would result in his fifth victory of 2012.
On Friday night the team traveled to Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Kentucky) for a Weekly Racing Series Event. Eighteen Super Late Models entered the program, and after finishing second in his heat race Mike started third on the grid for the main event. He would battle in the top five for the duration of the 25 lap finale before crossing the finish line in third behind race winner, Dustin Linville, and Justin Ratliff. Full results from the event are available at

Saturday night found Marlar in action at Lake Cumberland Speedway (Burnside, Kentucky) in a $3,000-to-win event. Twenty-two Super Late Models converged on the facility for the unsanctioned event, and after finishing third in his heat race Marlar started seventh on the feature grid. He would narrowly avoid a series of early-race cautions as the race finally endured a long, green flag run. Marlar progressively began working his way through the pack as he set his sights on leader, Tim Tungate. Tungate encountered issues in lap traffic with just four laps remaining, and Marlar inherited the lead. Mike went on to lead the last four laps to claim the win. He was followed across the finish line by Chris Combs, Victor Lee, Skylar Marlar, and Jesse Lay.
Mike will return to the driver's seat of the #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model this weekend in the 33rd Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana). The event will pay $20,000-to-win and will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). For more information, please visit
