Mark Dowdy Racing Wraps Season Up with 11th Place Finish at Duck River Raceway Park

WATERLOO, AL- (11/21/12) – Mark Dowdy Racing competed this past weekend at Duck River Raceway Parks (Wheel, TN) 1st Annual Deep Fried 75 event, capturing a 11th place finish amongst the stout field of 22 competitors in the $1000 To-Win 2 Barrel Late Model event.
 
Events for MDR, began on Thursday night as the team traveled to Duck River Raceway Park for the three day event. The team participated in the Thursday night practice session to get some much needed track time and to tune the Pittman Dutton and Hellums Law Firm/Rather Sewer Inspection Services/D&R Hardware Warrior/Chassis for the big event on Saturday night. Mark made some great runs, turning times in the 12.60’s which wasn’t far off from the super late model times. After the practice session had concluded the team felt confident and was ready for Saturday nights  2 Barrel Late Model event.
 
Saturday night saw the team in competition mode, as Duck River Raceway Park 2 Barrel Late Model pole qualifying was the first agenda for the MDR team. Mark would qualify deep within the pack of the 22 car field in the 17th starting spot in the $1000 to-win event.
 
When the 2 barrel late model feature time hit the track, MDR made final adjustments and pulled into the 17th spot on the grid. As the field took the green flag, Dowdy jumped right into the mix with the other competitors. The Warrior Chassis & Manic Race Engine was red hot picking off cars one lap at a time in the 20 lap feature. As the leaders were out front, Dowdy and several mid pack cars were putting on the show for the fans. Mixing it up in two and three wide battles for position, at this point of the race it was a battle for the 12th through 15th position. Dowdy would run the highside of the speedway, the #42 Tony Simmons running the middle groove and the #33 Bill Mitchell on the bottom side, mixing it up on every other lap, the three would swap positions back and forth coming to the flag stand, making for an exciting outcome as the laps wound down. A late race incident nearly ended the night for the MDR team, as Dowdy was in the heat of battle and was behind the lapped car of the #16 Larry Delong, when the #16 cars engine expired slowing in front of Dowdy, causing him to get into the rear of him, Dowdy sustained minor damage to the nose of the car and was able to continue in the 13th spot. On the restart Dowdy would jump back up top, where the Warrior chassis felt good and pass the #20 of Boone Fullwood. When the final lap clicked off Dowdy would finish in the 12th position. In post race procedures the winning car #2 Ryan Gifford failed to cross the scales immediately after the race had concluded, thus he was disqualified and Dowdy would finish 11th in the 1st Annual Deep Fried 75 $1000 To-Win 2 Barrel event.
 
This marked the final event for the Mark Dowdy Racing Team for the 2012 season and the team is already making preparations for 2013. Mark Dowdy and team members want to thank each and every Mark Dowdy Racing fan and supporter for their support and being loyal fans of the team.
