Josh McGuire Leads Early at Brownstown; Gears Up for Spring 50

GRAYSON, KY (March 28) - The Josh McGuire Racing (JMR) team finally got the opportunity to kick-off their 2013 racing season on Saturday evening, March 23 at the legendary Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana.  The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presided over the 16th edition of the 'Indiana Icebreaker' and 37 competitors converged on the 1/4-mile fairgrounds facility to vie for the $10,000 top prize.  Josh McGuire started off his night by posting the third quickest lap in Group B during qualifying behind only Jared Landers and Brandon Sheppard.

Josh then had a strong run in his heat race to take home the prelim triumph over transferring drivers Earl Pearson, Jr., Jared Landers, and Eddie Carrier, Jr.  By virtue of the win in the third heat race, Josh started the 50-lap 'Indiana Icebreaker' from the outside of the front row.  The Grayson, Kentucky hotshoe bolted to the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the stellar field for the first five circuits.  After giving up the point to eventual winner Dennis Erb, Jr., Josh ran solidly inside of the top five for much of the race before a turn two bobble caused him to fade to an eighteenth place finish.  Full results from the Brownstown biggie can be accessed by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.

“We are happy with how the car performed all night at Brownstown, but just a little bummed about our finish,” stated McGuire this week.  “I think I could have held those guys off and finished about fifth, but I just hit that hole wrong in the middle of turns one and two that one lap.  It about turned me around and really dropped us back in the running order.  Overall though, it was a good opening night for us, as we were able to lead a few laps and at least saw the front of the field for most of the race.”

The #41 team will now turn their focus back to the 37th Annual ‘Spring 50’ at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky.  The unsanctioned, one-day program was scheduled to be Josh’s season lid lifter on March 16, but inclement weather pushed the storied race back to this Saturday, March 30.  A complete show featuring time trials, heat races, consolation events, and the $5,000 to win ‘Spring 50’ will be held at the Cincinnati area venue this Saturday.  Additional information can be viewed by logging onto www.florencespeedway.com.
