Kann dominates for first Late Model feature win at Bedford Speedway

Bedford Speedway PR
BEDFORD, PA (May 3) - Another wild Friday night at Bedford Speedway saw several new first time and infrequent feature winners and one winning streak continue. Justin Kann became the 126th different Late Model winner at the track with a dominating performance over that event. Deanna Groves made history at the track when she swept to the win in Economodified action, the first female feature winner in track history, Kyle Beckett also became a first time winner in Pure Stock action. Robby Black won the Limited event, Jesse Snyder won the Semi Late thriller and Cale Martin won another wild 4 Cylinder race to complete the evening.

Justin Kann started on the front row of the Late Model 25 lapper and instantly set sail. He got by pole sitter Steve Campbell at the start and ran off. Campbell fell back as far as fifth in the early stages as Jeff Rine and DJ Troutman rushed by. Rine ran Kann down and looked like he would take over but Kann held off all challenges. Rine retired after a 13th lap caution, leaving Troutman in pursuit.

Troutman found himself battling heavily as a resurgent Campbell took over second again and Matt Parks was rushing forward from the pack. Campbell took second on lap 19 and Parks also got by Troutman on lap 22. but Kann had the field wired and rushed off to the big first win. Campbell held off a fast closing Parks for second while Troutman and Matt Cosner trailed. Rance Garlock, Wayne Johnson, Mike Altobelli Jr, Andy Haus and Cory Weaver completed the top ten. Parks, Campbell and Garlock won the heats.

Tim Smith was the early Limited leader. He held on as Robby Black closed by mid race. Black shot by on lap 11 but almost instantly Black’s car began showing smoke. Black, who lost the event last Friday when his engine exploded dramatically, was more fortunate this time as the smoking engine held together for the duration for the win. Smith held off a late charging Dave Leidy for second, ahead of Craig Perigo, Curtis Heath, Donnie Farlling and Travis Stickley. Farlling and Khi Swanger won the heats.

It took three tries to get the Semi Late event going but it was worth it, Ryan Beckett led the first two laps before Jesse Snyder git by. But it quickly became a 4 car dog fight at the front. Jamie Swank, Jim Sayler and Beckett went at it in a herd lap after lap, interrupted by a few minor caution incidents. That gang was joined late by Chris Chamberlain who was the lap 5 caution.

Swank and Saylor made serious challenges to the leader but Snyder held on. Swank barely held off Chamberlain at the line. ahead of Saylor, Matt Krause and Bob Jay. Tom Warren and Sayler won the heats.

Deanna Groves made her first start in the new Economodified class and scored the historic win. She got by Tony Daniels on lap 2 and wired the field. She survived a last lap tangle with a lapped car and the one lap shootout that followed for the win. Daniels, Dennis Perigo, John Whitfield and Adam Daniels trailed.

Kyle Beckett went pole to pole to score his first career Pure Stock win, He held off Charlie Walters early and Bill Replogle late as the pack never let him get away. Replogle rallied for second but Beckett held on at the line. Walter, Justin Michael and Brad Feight trailed. Jarrod Brown, and Replogle won the heats.

Cale Martin started eighth in the Four Cylinder event. He joined the Pluta twins at the front on lap 4 and the battle was on. The trio traded the lead over a dozen times at various places on the track as the crowd roared, Martin scooted ahead over the last lap to scored the win over Robert Pluta and Andrew at the line. Chad Ritchey, Brandon Conrad and John Diehl trailed. Ritchey, Robert Pluta and Martin won the heats.

4 Cylinder heat race action was highlighted by a wild flip by Ryan Peer. He barrell rolled the length of the backstretch after contact, demolishing his car. He was uninjured.
