LATHROUM SUCCESSFUL IN HAGERSTOWN/WINCHESTER SHOOTOUT, PEGHER JR. POSTS CAREER WIN 100 IN RUSH LATE MODELS

HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 21) – Jamie Lathroum finally had a few things go his way Friday night at Hagerstown Speedway with the draw putting him on the pole for his heat race and another putting him on the pole for the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout on Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD then led all but one of the 35 laps and collected $3,000 with a .881 second triumph over Gregg Satterlee.

“The last few times we were here, we broke a motor and broke a car. This is a whole lot better night, “Lathroum said.

In the second appearance of the RUSH Crate late models, Mike Pegher Jr. of Wexford, PA scored his 100th career win worth $2,000 in the series 30-lap event.

“The other time we were here for the Crate race was the first time I was ever here,” Pegher said. ”This place is pretty cool and we’re excited to come back and get the 100th career win is pretty awesome.”

Lathroum took off with Gary Stuhler and then J.T. Spence in the runner up spot but Austin Hubbard ducked under for the position following a third lap restart.

Lathroum had no problem keeping his distance on Hubbard as they pulled out to distance Stuhler by more than four seconds.  Lathroum caught the rear of the field on the 16th lap as Hubbard quickly closed with the rear car spinning off turn four ahead of them on lap 18.

On that restart, Gregg Satterlee, who had advanced into third, powered past Hubbard but after three laps, Lathroum edged away until another caution regrouped the field on the 24th lap.

Hubbard paid back the favor on the restart and powered past Satterlee to grab second and lead by a half-length on the next lap. Lathroum charged back into the lead off the second turn and was again ahead more than a second when another caution appeared on the 29th lap.

Lathroum quickly escaped while it was Satterlee again retaking the runner up spot from Hubbard while behind him, Jeremy Miller had arrived all the way from 21st and sped into third.

Over the final six laps, it was all Lathroum as he went to the line by .881 seconds over Satterlee and Miller while Hubbard and Kenny Pettyjohn completed the top five. Spence was sixth with Stuhler, Marvin Winters, Keith Jackson and Jason Covert next. Lathroum, Dylan Yoder and Stuhler were heat winners with Roy Deese Jr. taking the consy win. 

“The restarts were killing us but after a few laps, I’d get a little rhythm and start getting away,” Lathroum said. “I just didn’t want to see all those restarts. I’d like to see it go green to checkered.”

After winning the K & N Dash, D.J. Troutman led the opening lap of the RUSH event but he and Andrew Wylie battled for the same space and Troutman spun in the second turn after a lap scored.

Wylie took over for the restart with seventh starting Pegher Jr. into second by lap two and made his successful bid for the lead the next lap. 

Pegher was cruising and pulling away as Andrew Satterlee moved into second on lap six with the caution coming out on lap 11 just as Pegher arrived at the back of the field and 2.5 seconds ahead.

Following the restart, Pegher again paced himself at the helm while Glenn Elliott moved into third on lap 13 and was trying to run Satterlee down.

Pegher arrived at the rear of the field again on the 21st lap with more than a two second lead and continued the pace past several of the rear cars. He went to the checkered flag with two lapped cars and 1.696 seconds separating him from Satterlee.

“We kept watching the track and the super lates,” Pegher said. “The last time we were here we were a little bit loose all night long so we spent some extra time on the scales this week to make sure it was prefect.”

Elliott held to third with Ryan Montgomery and Joe Martin completing the top five. Sixth went to Wylie while Rick Singleton, who won Hagerstown’s opening RUSH event, had problems all night and started on the tail but sped to seventh and got the Precise Racing Products Hard Charger award. Chad McClellan, John Over and Jorden Peters were next. Elliott, Martin and Pegher were the heat winners.
