MARTIN, BERNER, CLINE, WEST, MARKEY & McLOUGHLIN CHARGE TO NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY MID SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP WINSby Mike Swanger
ORRVILLE, OH (July 12) - With all the rain the past week soaking into the track to make it good and fast plus double points for Mid Season Championships, it was set up to be some exciting racing on Malcuit Tavern Night at NAPA Wayne County Speedway and that it was. Andrew Palker set a new track record for the Fisher Performance Sprints with a time of 14.616 seconds but that would be the highlight of his night. Brad Haudenschild and Wooster’s Broc Martin would bring the field to the green flag as Palker quickly jumped into second place but the powerplant of the #57x would expire before he could complete the second lap. As Palker was coasting into the infield, Jordan Harble took a tumble in turn one to bring out the red flag and he would be transported to the hospital with a neck injury. On the restart, Martin grabbed the lead with Haudenschild hounding him and as they worked their way through the back of the field, Haudenschild could pull along side Martin’s Jim Smith Enterprises, SCFN, and Santmyer Oil #83, but could never inch ahead. With Martin using the low groove and Haudenschild running high side until the white flag waved when Haudenshild tried the low groove in turn two, only to spin himself and lose second place. Lee Jacobs could not make a run on Martin, who claimed his second win of the year, on the last lap after the restart as Mitch Harble took third with 12th starting Jason Dolick claiming fourth followed by Aaron Middaugh. Heat wins went to Haudenschild and Jacobs.
Charlie Duncan outhustled DJ Cline into turn one of the Lias Tire Late Model main with Millersburg’s Keith Berner swiping second away from Cline on lap five and then hounded Duncan for the lead. Doing everything he could, Berner took advantage of Duncan’s bobble in turn four on lap 18 to squeeze into the lead and the pull away in his Bud’s Place, Village Motors and Massillon Transmission #18 for his first win of the season. Ryan Markham nipped Duncan at the finish line for second as points leader Corey Conley took fourth ahead of Cline. Duncan and Berner topped the heats as Rick Bond was the quick timer.
It was a three car battle for the NAPA Modified feature as Nathan Loney, points leader Chris Basich and St. Clairville’s DJ Cline all were bunched together with Loney leading the first 19 laps but it was Cline and his Cline’s Sweeper and Cline’s Auto Body #4 inching past Loney coming out of turn four on the last lap to notch his first win of the season. Basich held on to third with Scott Stiffler and Kevin Crawford filling out the top five. Heat winners were Stiffler and Loney while Cline was the fast qualifier, just missing the track record by nine thousandths of a second.
Don Baney set the pace for the opening four circuits of the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature when Kyle Moore made a move to take over but got sideways in front of the pack to bring out the caution and Ryan West of West Lafayette would inherit the lead and breezed to the win aboard the Power Wash Plus, Johnson Plumbing & Heating and Ken Adams Transfer #9. Points leader Brandon Gardner finished second with Baney, Jeremy Lynch and Brandon Craver rounding out the top five. Fast qualifier Larry Baldwin won a heat as did Moore and West.
Killbuck’s Blaine Markey took the lead after Mike Rose and Billy Parsons could not hang on to the top spot for the first four laps of the WQKT Mini Stock Main but following a caution on the next lap, Markey and his Loudonville Tire #177 would slip all the way back to sixth place before storming his way back up front to pocket his first win. Jason King finished second with Jeff Barker in third as Brad Hensel finished fourth followed by Logan Martin. Brad Hensel and Markey posted the heat wins.
12 year old Tanner McLoughlin led all the way in both the heat race and feature of the Mini Wedge races as the Zanesville youngster drove the 2 Brothers Motorsports and McLoughlin Auto Sales #59 to his fourth victory of the season. Zoe Stafford, the only other feature winner at NAPA Wayne County Speedway, was second with Brooke Dawson finishing third with her brother, Billy, in fourth followed by Danny Selway.
Next Friday night, July 19th at NAPA Wayne County Speedway will see the BRP Big Block Modifieds back for the first time in a decade as the Modlites and the Trucks make their first trip in as the Fisher Performance Sprints and the Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks will also be in action.
