Alex Ferree and Dave Hess Jr. Win NDRL's ULMS/UEMS Events at Lernerville
NDRL Media Sarver, PA (July 19) - Alex Ferree of Saxonburg and Dave Hess Jr of Waterford captured the National Dirt Racing League's United Late Model Series and United Emod Series event last night at Don Martin's Lernerville Speedway. This was the first visit for the ULMS Late Models to the famed Sarver PA oval that witnessed 28 late models on hand. Big Brother, Dan Stone of Thompson PA and Alex Ferree brought the field to the green with Stone getting the quick jump but the A-Train shot around Big Brother on the cushion to take the lead out of turn two. Russ King entered the top five on the fifth lap as Ferree started to motoring away from Stone using the cushion to his advantage. Dave Hess would grab third from Garrett Krummert on lap ten as Kelvin Kohan came to a stop to bring out the yellow. On the restart, ULMS point leader Mike Knight shot from sixth to third as Stone got shuffled back to eighth. Jim Rasey would bring the yellow out on lap thirteen setting up another restart. Ferree using the Delaware restart to his advantage as Hess was now in second with Jared Miley third and Stone came flying back to fourth from his eighth place starting spot. Another quick yellow for Doug Eck on lap fifteen slowed the pace. The restart saw Hess get a great start on Ferree as the Waterford PA driver was all over Ferree till lap 22 when Miley would grab the runner up spot. Hess's night came to a quick end on lap 25 when he jumped the cushion and nearly rolled the car over bringing out the yellow. The restart saw Stone take second from Miley with Russ King and Boom Briggs now in the top five till another yellow flag came out on lap 27 for the cars of Denton Boyer, Todd Bachman and Ken Schaltenbrand. After a lengthy yellow to separate the cars the field got going again as Ferree shot back into the lead with Miley, Russ King, Boom and Mike Blose all in tow. The final few laps ran caution free as Ferree captured his second consecutive NDRL ULMS late model series win over Miley, King, Briggs and Mike Blose, Dan Stone came home sixth after jumping the cushion, he was followed by Mike Pegher Chuck Sarver Dan Angelicchio and Mike Knight. Dave Hess hasn't raced many emod events this year, but when he does he is always one of the cars to beat. He proved that again at Lernerville by defeating the region's top driver, Steve Dixon by almost a full second. Former series champion, Randy Hall and Hess paced the field to the start with Hess outgunning Hall on the start with Dixon, Shane Crotty and Jonathan Taylor the top after the opening lap. Joe Gabrielson brought out the first yellow on lap 3. Lap four saw another quick yellow for Joe Betz with the only Crotty advancing to third. Hess was your leader at lap 10 with Dixon now in second and he was coming fast for Hess. At the halfway mark, Dixon had pulled side by side with Hess for the lead but never getting the full advantage. Dixon scraped the wall in turn four allowing Hess to pull away allowing Hall to close back in on Dixon for second. Hess would pull away from the duo and later Dixon would distance himself from Hall as the real race now was between the Taylor boys of Jonathan and Evan for fourth and bragging rights. Hess would easily win by a near full second over Dixon who was coming off three consecutive wins. Hall came home third rebounding after two poor performances last weekend and Jonathan Taylor edged his brother Evan for fifth.
