THIS WEEKEND’S DIRT LATE MODEL SERIES PREVIEWS

Deery Series headlines Iowa State Fair show… Another $3,000 top prize is at stake when the Deery Brothers Summer Series travels to Des Moines and the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway on Monday, Aug. 12. The State Fair show is the 12th of 17 events on the 2013 IMCA Late Model tour schedule. Brian Harris of Davenport already has five feature wins to his credit and brings a 31 point lead over Wheatland’s Justin Kay, a three-time winner, to Des Moines. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the Monday card, running for all applicable points. Completing the program are the Karl Chevrolet dirt trucks. Twenty-one previous series events have been held at Des Moines and Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls leads all Deery drivers with five career wins there. Andy Eckrich of Oxford paced the 2012 State Fair feature.

NCRA/MLRA/MARS King of the Hill Late Model Shootout… This coming Friday and Saturday night one of the biggest late model events on the National Championship Racing Association late model division will take place as the 10th annual “King of the Hill Late Model Shootout” is set to take place at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska. Their familiar partners of the Lucas Oil Midwest Latemodel Racing Association will once again be part of the action. To add to the intrigue of this annual event and for the first time ever the MARS DIRTcar series will also be in action. It will be the first time in two years all three series will have joined forces making this one late model weekend you will not want to miss. Friday night’s feature winner will take home $2000 while championship Saturday night will pay $3000 and crowned “King of the Hill Late Model Shootout” champion.

COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Ready for Timberline Doubleheader… Competitors will set their sights on a doubleheader at Timberline Speedway this Friday and Saturday, August 9th-10th. Last weekend the CCSDS racers took part in a pair of events in Arkansas, and it was Billy Moyer Jr. and Jack Sullivan splitting wins, while Kyle Beard extended his point's advantage. With just five events remaining in the season Beard holds a commanding 149 point lead over Chandler Petty in the standings. Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year leader, Ashley Newman, is now third in the latest standings with Clay Fisher, Ross Camponovo, Tommy Surrett, Lynn Beach, Jon Kirby, Brandon Smith, and Keith Craft rounding out the top ten in the standings. Ashley Newman continues to comfortably reside atop the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year standings over Lynn Beach, Joseph Long, and Jake Davis.

Chevy Super Series Heads To The Bad Fast Taz...America’s first “Factory Backed and Factory Built” dirt late model series, The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series, heads to Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN this Saturday night for the $3,000-to-win $300-to-start West Chevrolet 50 that is Round 3 of the 10-race 2013 season that pays a $30,000 point fund to the Top 10 drivers.  Known as the Bad Fast Taz, Tazewell Speedway is a ¼-mile high banked clay oval that is well suited for the all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine that powers the dirt late models in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series.  Point leader William Thomas of Phenix City, AL will be looking for his third-straight series win in his quest of the $10,000 Championship. With victories in the first two Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL on August 2 and at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on August 3, Thomas has accumulated 200 points, and has a 12-point over National Dirt Late Model Series Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN and Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL.

Midway's Jim Dunn Memorial for AMRA Late Models… The AMRA gears up for a big weekend ahead August 9 through August 11. The 2013 D1RT Jim Dunn Memorial will be Sunday, August 11, at the famed Midway Speedway. Gates will open at 2PM with hot laps at 4PM with  $5,001.00 to win, $201.00 to start for the Kryptonite AMRA Late Models. The purse features a whopping  $14,000-plus pay out, while the Octane AMRA Modifieds will race for $1000.00 to win. Midway will also be running Street Stocks, Outlaw 4cyl and Mini Wedges Paying $151, $75, $35, $25, and $15 for 5th. Some of the biggest names in racing have won this event since its inception in 1983—names such as Donnie Moran, Steve Shaver, Jack Blackjack Boggs, Earl Pearson, Jr., Freddie Smith,  Ray Cook, and Larry Bond are among the names on the Marquis for one of racing’s most prestigious crowns.  Below are a list of race winners over the past three decades.
