MARS and NCRA Late Models close out 2013 season with Salina Doubleheader

by David Smith Jr
PARK CITY, Kansas (September 19) -  The 30th season for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model division will come to a close this coming weekend with a scheduled double-header at the ultra-banked Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma this coming Friday and Saturday night, September 20-21st. The tour will be joined by their familiar partners of the MARS DIRTcar series, who will also see their 2013 race season come to an end.

This event is the rescheduled date for the earlier June rainout and to give both tours two nights of racing action, the extra day was added. Friday night’s feature finale will pay $2500 to win and $350 to start while Saturday night season finale will pay $3000 to win and $400 to start.

Current tour point leader and G&G Dozer rookie of the year contender Jacob Magee comes into the final weekend with a 105 point advantage over Jimmy Segraves. Despite not having reached victory lane, Magee’s consistent finishes has him sitting atop the point standings while Segraves found victory lane at the Belleville High Banks back in July for his first career series victory.

Chase Junghans currently sits third in the point standings, 230 points out while G&G Dozer rookie of the year contender Jeremy Petty sits fourth. Gary Gorby, Mike Wiarda, Brad Wagoner and Scott Phillips sit fifth through eighth in the standings.

Through the nine events that have been completed, seven different drivers have reached victory lane. They include: Tony Jackson, Jr. (3), Ryan Gustin, Segraves, Kyle Berck, Will Vaught, Junghans and Tommy Weder, Jr.

As mentioned, the 14th consecutive season for the MARS DIRTcar series will also come to an end with a tight point’s battle for that series as well. Jackson, who has been on a tear this summer throughout the Midwest, holds a 94 point advantage over defending series champion Jesse Stovall. Other top ten drivers expected to represent the MARS DIRTcar series include: Justin Asplin, Leroy Johnson, Dustin Walker, Justin Wells, Brad Looney and Vaught.

Over thirty drivers from a six state area are expected to compete throughout the two race weekend.

Pit gates will open at 3:00 PM while grandstands both night’s open at 5:00 PM with racing slated for a 7:00 PM start time. Adult general admission is $15 both nights or you can obtain a two day adult pass for $25. Children general admission on Friday night is $5 and Saturday night $10. Adult pit passes for Friday night are $30 and $20 for children while Saturday night pit passes are $35 for adults and $25 for children. A two day adult pit pass can be obtained for $60 and $40 for children.

The Salina High Banks Speedway is located nine miles east of Pryor on highway 20 and the tracks phone number is (918) 434-7223.

Since 1971 the NCRA has sanctioned dirt track races across the Great Plains with the series currently sanctioning five other divisions. They include modifieds, southern sport modifieds, late models, 360 sprint cars, 305 sprint cars and new mod lites. The 2013 season for the National Championship Racing Association is the 43rd anniversary season with races scheduled at sixteen different race tracks across Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri.
