Stovall sweeps weekend, Jackson MARS champion at the Salina Highbanks



SALINA, OK (September 21) – Defending MARS champion Jesse Stovall of Billings, MO made it a weekend sweep at the Salina Highbanks as he picked up last night’s 40 lap, $3,000 to win season ending feature event.

Stovall started from the outside poll and led every lap en-route to his 17th career MARS win. Stovall had to weather several cautions along the way and withstood challenges from 2011 MARS champion Brad Looney of Republic, MO and 2013 MARS champion Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, MO.

Looney would settle for second with Gary Christian of Broken Bow, OK; Justin Asplin of Birch Tree, MO and Jackson Jr. rounding out the top five.

“Prime Time” Tony Jackson Jr of Lebanon, MO is the 2013 MARS DIRTcar Series Point Champion.

Jackson Jr. began the year with several top ten finishes before finally finding victory lane Memorial Day weekend at the Monett Speedway for the Tony Roper Memorial.  Over the next 16 races, Jackson Jr. would rack up a series of finishes worthy of a champion.  

Jackson piloted the #56 RLB Financial / Lindsay Chevrolet, Cornett powered Club 29 Rocket by Lanigan to 5 feature wins, 5 second place finishes, 5 top five finishes, 6 top ten finishes, with only 3 finishes outside the top 10.  Jackson Jr. finished the season with 1524 points.

2012 MARS champion Jesse Stovall of Billings, MO finished in second place with 1444 points.  Justin Asplin of Birch Tree, MO finished third with 1192 points.  6-time MARS champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO finished fourth with 1072 points and Dustin Walker of Peculiar, MO rounded out the top five with 949 points.

The season-ending banquet for the 14th Season of the MARS series will be announced in the near future.
