Shane Clanton Scores Day Two Win in SAS AL State Championship Races at East Alabama

SAS Media
PHENIX CITY, AL (September 29) - The Southern All Star Racing Series completed its weekend of racing competition on Sunday afternoon with the final day of the 35th Annual Alabama State Championship Races and Shane Clanton of Zebulon, GA would pick up his first victory with the tour in 2013 by taking the checkered flag first in the Core Construction/Kennedy Motorsports/Ironco Enterprises/Urban Energy Solutions/b3 Architecture and Planning sponsored #25 Capital Race Car sporting a Clements Race Engine beneath the hood.

The victory by Clanton was his first of the 2013 with the tour and his 11th career Southern All Star Racing Series victory. Clanton’s last win with the series came in May of 2011 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. Clanton’s victory also marked the 12th different driver that has seen victory lane in SAS Racing Series competition in 2013 through nineteen events.

Shane Clanton would take the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 40 lap, $4,000 to win contest, with Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. of Ocala, FL giving chase, with Lloyd, Jr. getting around Davenport just prior to the halfway. While Clanton maintained the top position, Saturday night winner Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC, who started 15th in the event, was charging his way toward the front. However, Clanton would not be denied on this day and would visit victory lane, with Lloyd, Jr. and Davenport finishing in the second and third positions respectively, while Madden’s run would earn him the Hard Charger of the race award as he would finish in the fourth position. Clint Smith of Senoia, GA would complete the top five.

The remainder of the top ten finishers on the final day of the 35th Annual Alabama State Championship Races would be Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, FL, 11th starting Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL, Gar Dickson of Flintstone, GA, and Tyler Millwood of Kingston, GA.

In the Alexanders Industrial Services Weekend Bonus program, Madden, Davenport, and Lloyd, Jr. would all tie for top honors in the final weekend points tally, however, Madden would be declared the winner of the tiebreaker based on him having won an event for the weekend and would collect a $2,000 bonus and earn the title of Alabama State Champion for 2013. Davenport and Lloyd, Jr. would split the bonus money for second and third because of the tie, so each took home an extra $750.

The next Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series event is on Saturday October 19 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. This event is held in conjuction with NASCAR Sprint Cup Weekend events at Talladega SuperSpeedway. The event will be 40 laps in length and pay $4,000 to win and $300 to start.
