Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri to Reopen in 2014

WARRENSBURG, MO (November 25) - Since Saturday, October 1, 2011, Central Missouri Speedway located just north of Warrensburg, Missouri, has set idle without the sounds of race engines making their way around the track. However, that silence will end in the spring of 2014 when the track reopens.

Track owners Earl and Susan Walls have decided to come out of retirement and will once again operate the track during the coming season. Although CMS has not hosted a racing event in over two years, the interest to reopen the track from drivers and fans alike is clearly evident and has not gone unnoticed by the 18-year CMS promoters and their staff.

“Most of the CMS staff remained active in racing in various roles after Susan and I originally retired from promoting the track,” said Earl Walls. “Anytime we get together, they tell me stories of how they are constantly asked by drivers and fans when the track will reopen,” the answer to that question is 2014,” stated Walls.

Details regarding the coming season will be released in the near future according to Walls who stated, “CMS is back, we will pick up where we left off and pay the modifieds $1,000-to-win.”

Details regarding a schedule of events, payouts, rules, and car classes will be decided in the near future. Also in the coming weeks, the track’s website will go live at centralmissourispeedway.net. CMS is located 3.5-miles north of Warrensburg, MO from the junction of Highways 50 and 13 in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Central Missouri Speedway Announces Tentative Plans for 2014 Season

WARRENSBURG, MO (December 4) - Just one week after the recent announcement that Earl and Susan Walls will reopen CMS in 2014, the track staff continued ironing out the proposed race dates and events for the coming season during its latest pre-season meeting.

In years past, drivers planning to compete at CMS met in early January to register for the season and to obtain clarification on car class and general track rules. This tradition will resume for CMS when track personnel meet with drivers on Saturday, January 11, 2014, in Warrensburg, Missouri, at the ABC Building on the Grounds of Grover Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to the January 11 meeting, another pre-season chance to register and meet staff will take place at the annual Bodee’s Racers Auction and Trade Show in Sedalia, Missouri. CMS will be part of vendor row during the annual event on January 25 and 26, presenting yet another opportunity for drivers to register and obtain copies car-class rules and the events schedule.

“Based on feedback we’ve received since announcing our reopening, drivers and fans are more than ready for CMS to be back in action. We’ve always done our best to run a fast, fair, and efficient program and will continue to operate in this manner in 2014. There won’t be many surprises for those familiar with how we run things. I have instructed the staff to review general race rules and to develop a Saturday race schedule with some of our traditional special events included for next season and I am confident in their abilities to accomplish what I asked,” stated track owner Earl Walls.

There are plans in the works to use the large utility building, which sets to the east of the main pit entrance as a pass-through technical inspection area. Walls says he also plans to add new dirt to the surface, which has set idle the past couple seasons. Sprucing up of the facility has begun and will continue as needed until the first night of racing on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

The speedway will utilize car class rules from the United States Racing Association (USRA) for drivers competing in the Modified and B-Modified car classes. However, CMS will not be a “weekly” sanctioned track due to a USRA rule, which prevents two tracks operating on the same night within 55 miles of one another from running under the USRA sanction.

A representative from CMS has been in discussion with USRA regarding specific race nights when the two tracks in question are not running the same car classes. CMS will make further announcements via press releases regarding future USRA sanctioning possibilities.

The three main car classes for 2014 are Modifieds, B-Modifieds, and Street Stocks. Discussions regarding street stock rules are ongoing and will be announced at a future date. ULMA late models will also join the CMS lineup on certain race nights as will additional guest classes.

In creating the schedule, the staff also lined up appearances by the Allstar Midget Series, Midwest Lightning Sprints, Mid-America Lightning Sprints presented by Jayhawk Millwright, and Mod Lites. Additional guest class announcements will be made at a future date. All dates listed on the schedule are tentative and subject to change. Once activated, the track may be found on the web at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

CMS is located 3.5-miles north of Warrensburg, MO from the junction of Highways 50 and 13 in Warrensburg just north of the new by-pass round-a-bout or from the Higginsville exit off of I-70, south on Highway 13 for twelve and half miles.
