English, Young become 4-time winners

CALVERT CITY, Ky. – Tanner English emerged from a furious three-car scramble at the start and led all the way to win his fourth Late Model feature of the year and second in a row Saturday night at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway.

English rode the high side in Turn 1 at the start and nosed ahead of pole starter Jason McBride as the two cars hit the backstretch. English led again off Turn 4 and never gave it up.

The third car in the fight was English’s father, Terry, who started third and ran in that spot until the only caution flag of the 20-lap race, on the sixth lap. Starting on the inside of McBride on the restart, Terry English was able to take second from McBride.

Jarryd Holshouser and Chris Shelton were fourth and fifth.

In other races on the program, Trent Young also became a four-time winner, taking the 15-lap Modified feature, while Jeff Glisson won for the first time in Pro (Crate) Late Model and Mike Hodges got his first Stock Car victory. Michael Watson won again in Mini Stock in the second race of the year for the four-cylinder cars.

Young, who won the first three races of the year in the open-wheel class, took the lead at the outset and never gave it up. Dustin Rollins was second, followed by Steve Ladd, Todd Riley and David Esch.

Glisson pulled away for the Crate victory over Troy English, Creedence Mott, Kevin Poole and Jeff Patterson.

Hodges got the Stock Car victory ahead of a dogfight for second between Rex Rutter and Kassidi Gibbs, with Rutter getting the edge for the runner-up spot. Mike Lentz and Brent Burnett were fourth and fifth.

Watson, who survived an early tangle to win last week’s debut race on the 2/10-mile infield oval, led all the way for his second victory, with Donnie Whited second and Eli English third.
