Chris Ferguson Stays Red Hot with Third Win in a Row

MT. HOLLY, North Carolina – Extending his winning streak to 3, Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, North Carolina rallied from the 13th starting position to overtake Johnny Pursley with just 2 laps remaining in the 40 lap Carolina Clash event at the Lancaster Speedway on May 31st. Ferguson scored the $4000 pay day ahead of a strong field of Carolina Clash drivers. “I dug myself a hole in qualifying for sure. I got into the wall there trying to go for the pole and put us starting way back there. But we had an excellent Warrior Race Car and I felt like we could get to the front if we stayed out of trouble. And fortunately we had the good fortune of being able to do just that. The car was so good I could move where I needed to and when I needed to make passes. It felt really good to win that one. It was satisfying to pass that many cars and earn the win.” Ferguson commented.

Ferguson’s string began with his ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series triumph on May 17th in the 35th Annual TireX USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway. That win Ferguson characterizes as “one of the biggest wins” of his dirt racing career. Though he had won the same purse in the past the prestige and competition level at this one was through the roof. “To pass Gregg (Satterlee) and outrun guys like him and (Jonathan) Davenport as strong as they have been, it was huge for our small team. Virginia Motor Speedway is such an amazing facility and the Sawyers have worked so hard to have big events like the USA 100 it feels good to win one there. Ferguson followed the USA 100 up with a Carolina Clash victory at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee the following Saturday and the Lancaster Speedway win.

Ferguson and his Great America / Langley Collision Center team planned to take the first few weekends of June off as they sent their only race engine back to Clements Race Engines to be refreshed in preparation for the remainder of the 2014 season. “Our engine had over 1100 laps on it and we didn’t want to chance trying to run it again before a rebuild. Clements builds us a really reliable engine but it was time and it worked out very well with how the schedule fell. We had a long stretch off from point races with the NDRL and now we will have our engine back and be ready for the Grassy Smith Memorial Lucas Oil race at Cherokee. Then the following week we head out to Batesville, Arkansas for the NDRL Bad Boy 98. This little break will really allow us to get fully prepared and freshened up before getting back at it.” Ferguson added.

The next event on the CFM schedule is the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina on Friday, June 20th.
