Bub McCool Sweeps Weekend CCSDS Action at Greenville

by Ben Shelton
VICKSBURG, MS (July 9) – Bub McCool swept the weekend's racing action with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) in his #57J McCool Logging/ Victory Circle/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi).

Friday night found twenty-five Super Late Models registered for the $1,500-to-win opener. McCool posted the quickest lap overall during time trials, and went on to win his heat race to lock into the pole position for the feature with Tommy Surrett alongside. McCool grabbed the lead as the race went green, but Surrett would fight back and ultimately lead lap 1 of the 30 lapper. A caution flew just as the first lap was complete, bunching the field back up before going green once again. Surrett commanded the top spot as the leaders caught lapped traffic by lap six. On lap seven McCool used heavy traffic to his advantage to take the lead, but Surrett jumped back to the top spot just one lap later. McCool assumed the point once again on lap nine. Once out front Bub raced away from his competitors to lap all but the top ten runners on his way to victory, which came over Surrett, Clay Fisher, Duke Palasini, and Kyle Beard.

On Saturday evening. McCool captured his second career victory with the tour in as many nights with a $2,000 triumph. Twenty-four entries returned to do battle, and Bub locked into the second starting spot in the 35 lap finale via a heat race win. McCool jumped to the early lead, and by lap six the leaders were in lapped traffic as the first of four cautions flew. The second caution of the event waved on lap nine, and on lap ten Rickman used the low line to shot past McCool for the lead and he bounced off the outside wall in turn four.

The final caution of the night came on lap sixteen, and on the restart Rickman motored away from McCool. However, the race was far from over as McCool caught Rickman by lap 24. The duo rocketed past the flag stand side-by-side, and continued to go door-to-door until McCool used a slide job in turn four on lap 28 to claim the top spot. Over the course of the closing laps Bub stretched his advantage and went on to score the win by a straightaway over Kyle Beard, Tommy Surrett, Stacy Taylor, and Duke Palasini.  The win marked his third of 2014.

"Greenville Speedway has been really good to us over the past few years, and my crew has really worked their tails off on this hot rod," said McCool. "We are learning a lot about this new car and seem to be getting better every time we hit the track."
