Ray Cook Sweeps Holiday Weekend with Victories at Talladega and Tazewell

BRASSTOWN, NC (July 10) - The "Tarheel Tiger" Ray Cook picked up a pair of victories over the 4th of July holiday weekend in the states of Alabama and Tennessee!  His busy weekend started on Thursday, July 3 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama.  Driving a Warrior racecar out of the Tommy Pope Racing stable, Ray set fast time during qualifying for the weekly Super Late Model event, which earned him the pole position for the start of the 30-lap feature.  Ray then grabbed the top spot early in the race and drove away from the field to collect the $1,200 paycheck over Tim Roszell, Jason Hiett, Ross Martin, and Terry Smith!

On Saturday evening, July 5, Ray unloaded his own #53 MasterSbilt at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee for a Southern Nationals Series Bonus Race.  Ray knocked down the third quickest lap during the qualifying session at "The Taz" and later started the 40-lap headliner from the inside of the second row.  The Brasstown, North Carolina star then assumed the point on lap 16 and led the remainder of the distance en route to the $5,000 triumph over Justin Rattliff, Chad Ogle, Brad Neat, and Dennis Roberson!  Complete results from the action-packed weekend can be accessed online at www.talladegashorttrack.com and www.southernnationalsseries.com.

"We were truly blessed with a terrific 4th of July weekend," exclaimed Cook this week while on vacation with his family.  "Tommy (Pope) and his guys had been working on that Warrior car for a while now and they got it together last week, so we decided to run it at Talladega.  The car was fast right off the trailer and we were able to get the win.  Then at Tazewell, I think we hit on some things on my MasterSbilt car and got it a lot better.  Lapped traffic got hairy at times - like it always does at Tazewell, but everything worked out in our favor.  With the Southern Nationals coming up, I am not going to have many opportunities to race in the next month, so hopefully we can run up front again this Saturday at North Georgia!"

Next up for the #53 team will be a visit to North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia this Saturday, July 12.  The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will preside over the annual running of the 'Earnest Young Memorial 40' and a $4,000 top prize will be on the line.  More information on this single-day affair can be viewed by pointing your web browser to www.ultimatesupers.com.
