Randy Weaver Goes the Distance for Dad in Southern Nationals Stop at 411 Motor Speedway
by SNS/Chris Tilley
SEYMOUR, TENNESSEE (July 22) - Randy Weaver got the win at 411 Motor Speedway for his Dad. The Crossville, Tenn. delivered a flag-to-flag stellar performance in Round 2 of the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series by Old Man's Garage at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. on Tuesday Night and celebrated it with dedication to his father who hasn't been well but was in attendance for the event.
The home-state win was worth $3,500, his fourth on the tour. Weaver's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and is sponsored by Outlaws Race Parts, The Bailey Company, Precision One Trailer Parts and VP Race Fuels.
Home-town driver Ryan King of Seymour along with Weaver led the field of 23 to the start of the green flag with Weaver getting the jump and the lead early in the 35-lapper.
Weaver led the entire distance crossing the stripe ahead of Madden, King, Austin Smith and Chad Ogle for the win.
Weaver's emotional victory came in front of a huge East-Tennessee crowd. "Got to thank the fans for coming out for coming out and supporting what we love to do, this is definitely for Dad, he hasn't got to go in a while and that cancer has got on him, the Lord has been good to us and he got to see me win one more race at least," said a teary-eyed Weaver in victory lane.
Weaver attributes the win to his new Longhorn Chassis that's been running well lately. "That Cornett Ford power, man that was some horsepower, we couldn't use all of it, Longhorn Chassis, Kevin Rumley, Matt, all the Labonte's over there, they've kind of got this thing rolling and let me jump aboard and I really appreciate that. Ohlins Shocks, Hoosier Tire, Schaeffer's Oil, all the guys that help us, I couldn't do it without all of them. Also got to thank Chip Stone, he owns this stuff, he stays in Florida most of the time and he's the same guy if we call and tell him we wreck or we call and tell him we win, so I really appreciate them guys," Weaver went on to say.
Runner-up Chris Madden had a solid second-place finish at the East-Tennessee oval and was pleased with his results lately. "We've been working on it, I can't say enough about Scott and Ronnie from Penske has been working on this thing for the last three days, we've made miles of ground in just three days of scratching the surface, those guys have really worked hard and we really like the Penske stuff that they got going on and I like to thank Aaron at Penske, Ronnie & James those guys have really worked hard and 'Tadpole' and 'Hoss' come help me and keep this thing going through the night, we had a good race car tonight, I like to not have seen those last two cautions I felt like we had a shot at maybe racing him for the win there," stated Madden about his podium finish.
Madden is also on the recovery end of what has been a long process but is making leaps and bounds. "I'm okay, it's definitely a bother, I had major surgery done and I had to go have another incision, one inch incision, about two inches deep so I've been having to change the gauze two or three times a night it's kind of a big ordeal and it's an aggravation but God's been good to me and it wasn't Cancer so that's a great plus, I can handle this and we can heal from what we got. I want to thank all my family at home for supporting me and all of my sponsors, Jamie and Brian and Scott, Allstar Performance, Clements Racing Engines, Hoosier Dirt Tire South, VP Fuels, Penske Shocks, Braswell Carburetion, 'Tadpole' and those guys at the shop," Madden went on to say.
Third-place finisher Ryan King was all smiles with his best-career Southern Nationals finish. "I'm pretty happy to be up here, I thought there would be a little more something on the bottom, had the advantage on these guys early on qualifying it took them a little longer to figure the race track out where I'm used to running here every week, but we just had go get up on the race track, I think I jumped down a little too soon trying to get by lapped traffic and let Madden get around me on the high side but I was just trying to hang on out there and be out here on the front straightaway for this interview," chuckled King.
Five cautions slowed the event. On lap two, Bobby Mays spun in turn two. On the third lap, Skylar Marlar, who was trying to get to the bottom of the track was spun around and the field would slow once again. Just as the field came by to complete the 12th circuit, Billy Ogle Jr.'s #201 left a huge puff of smoke in the air and his mount then slowed in turn two. Ogle had to be pushed off the track, leaving oil coming off two from the failed powerplant. Matt Henderson came to rest at the top of turn four on the 23rd lap to bring out the fourth caution of the night. Greg Roberson would spin in turn two on lap 31 bringing out the final yellow flag.
The Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series by Old Man's Garage will be back in action for Round's 3-6 and four straight nights starting out at Modoc (SC) Raceway Thursday Night paying $3,500-to-win, Friday Night at Swainsboro (GA) Raceway for $5,300-to-win, Saturday Night for the 15th Annual Rebel Yell 53 at Screven (GA) Motor Speedway and Sunday Night at the Rome (GA) Speedway paying $5,300-to-win.
