Christine Jr. Claims Fifth Victory in the Special 32-Lap Late Model Feature on Saturday Night at SSP Newberrytown, PA (August 30, 2014) – Manchester’s Randy Christine Jr. took his fifth win of the season in the special 32-lap Late Model feature during the York County Nationals at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night. Mike Wagner II of Harrisonville captured his second PA Sprint Series feature victory of the year. Lebanon’s Jasen Geesaman won his sixth Street Stock feature of the season in the special 25-lapper. Lancaster’s Donnie Broderick won his first Xtreme Stock Car feature of 2014. Matt Wallace of Mt. Airy, Maryland won his third consecutive Classic Car feature of the season. Daryl Sipe of York Haven won the exciting Small Car Demolition Derby at the end of the night. Outside front row starter Tim Murphy took the lead at the start of the special 32-lap Late Model feature with Randy Christine Jr. close in tow. On lap 10, Christine Jr. and Gene Knaub passed Murphy to make it a two-car battle for the lead. Knaub showed his car to Christine Jr. on every circuit on the bottom side. Knaub was unable to make the pass throughout the event. A yellow in the later stages of the race set up a 2-lap shoot-out for the win. Kanub challenged and Christine Jr. never faltered. Christine Jr. took the checkers to win his second consecutive York County Nationals over Knaub. Ben Whitaker finished third, followed by Robbie Black who made his first appearance to SSP in 2014. Justin Ehrhart rounded out the top five. Sam Gallagher, Christine Jr. and Whitaker were the heat race winners. Mike Wagner II grabbed the lead from outside the second row at the start of the 20-lap PA Sprint Car feature. As Wagner set the pace at the front, Zach Newlin kept pace with the leader. Newlin was unable to make a challenge for the lead in lapped traffic, as Wagner went on top take the victory on the non-stop feature after a red flag on the initial start of the race. Newlin settled for second with Colby Dice in third. Anthony Fiore and Ken Duke finished fourth and fifth respectively. Dice, Duke and Newlin won their respective heat races. From the front row, Jim Palm Jr. took early lead of the special Street Stock 25-lap feature for the second consecutive week. On lap 8, Danny Beard scooted by Palm to take over the top spot and began to set the pace of the race. On lap 16, Beard slowed on the backstretch with a mechanical failure and retired from the race. Geesaman inherited the lead with Palm on his tail. In the waning stages of the race, Chris Derr moved into the runner-up spotand continued to battle Palm for the spot. At the end, Geesaman took the victory over Derr who won the runner-up battle. Palm settled for a strong third place finish. Scott Thunberg finished fourth with Jimmy Combs coming across the line in fifth place. Danny Beard and Geesaman were heat race victors. The 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event had Davey Nester take command of the top spot on the start from outside the front row. Donnie Broderick challenged until the lap 7 of the race when he moved by Nester to take the top spot. Broderick continued to lead through the remainder of the race with Horan stalking. At the finish, Broderick took the win over Horan. Johnny Palm came home in third after starting in 19th place. Davey Nester finished fourth with Matt Wampler settling in the fifth position. The heat race winners were Horan, Nester and Brian Rehbein. In the 20-lap Classic Car feature, Wes Brown took the early lead but retired from the race on lap 12, giving the lead to the eventual winner Matt Wallace. Jim crocker finished in second, followed by Steve Clemo in third. Ron Grove and Brandon Little finished fourth and fifth respectively. Brown and Wallace were heat race winners.
