Jimmy Mars Takes Sixth Career Punky Manor Challenge of Champions Title

MENOMONIE, WISC (September 25) - Jimmy Mars recorded his sixth career 'Punky Manor Challenge of Champions' title over the September 19-20 weekend at the nearby Red Cedar Speedway in his hometown of Menomonie, Wisconsin!  Jimmy won his heat race in preliminary action on Friday evening and led the second half of Saturday's headliner.  The Menomonie star claimed the $5,000 payday for the popular WISSOTA Late Model win over Jake Redetzke, Scott Gilberts, Mike Prochnow, and Rick Hanestad!

The Mars Racing team also unloaded a MB Customs modified throughout the weekend at Red Cedar Speedway to vie for the $2,000 top prize.  Jimmy also won his heat race in the Open Wheel Modified division and eventually bagged a strong runner-up performance in Saturday's main event to finish behind only victor Darrell Nelson.  Complete results from the 35th Annual 'Punky Manor Challenge of Champions' can be obtained online at www.redcedarspeedway.com.

"The Punky Manor is one of those races that we always circle at the beginning of the year because of its prestige and it is awesome to be a six-time winner of that event," quoted Mars following the triumph.  "The rain kinda threw a wrench into things on Saturday, but the track crew did a good job getting the show in for the fans.  Our Late Model performed flawlessly all weekend and our Modified was good as well, but we just came up one spot shy of the win behind Darrell (Nelson).  It was a great weekend for MB Customs and we hope that continues heading into one of our favorite weekends at Knoxville!"

Next up for the #28 team will be a trip to the Hawkeye State from September 25-27 for the 11th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals' at the hallowed grounds of Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.  The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction all of the dirt-slinging action at the 1/2-mile Marion County Fairgrounds oval.  The three-day crown jewel event will start later tonight and Friday with a pair of preliminary events, each of which will be capped off with a 25-lap sprint paying $7,000 to the winner.

The culmination of the 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals' will then take place on the black dirt on Saturday evening and a whopping $40,000 winner's check will be on the line.  Saturday's lineup includes a D-Main, C-Main, B-Main, and the 100-lap 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.'  The award winning Lucas Oil Production Studios will be on hand to film this mega-event that will air on both NBC Sports and the MAVTV American Real Networks in 2014.  Jimmy, who is always a threat when he pulls into the infield at Knoxville, has a career best finish of fourth in this race back in 2008.  Additional information on the 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals' weekend can be accessed online at www.lucasdirt.com.
