King and Ruhlman claim Steel City Stampede wins at Lernerville
Lernerville PR
SARVER, PA (October 25) - A dream season has come to an end with the successful completion of the 6th Annual DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede; the 27th straight scheduled night of racing and 29 of 30 during the 2014 Lernerville Speedway schedule. In a sport so completely dependent on the weather, canceling just one event in an entire season is absolutely unheard of and to end the season with three consecutive nights of perfect fall weather for Western PA was the icing on the cake.
Russ King and Alex Ferree battled each other for the lead most of the 2014 season in the Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Models, both on the track and in the Budweiser Point Standings; that trend continued this weekend. And while Ferree prevailed in the regular season, (winning four features and the points title), King prevailed at the Stampede leading 24 of 25 laps and securing his second $3,000 payday of the season; recall he also pocketed $3,000 at the end of August for winning the rescheduled Uncle Sam 30. This was King’s fourth win of the season. 2014 Champion Alex Ferree chased King the whole way to the checkered flag to race home second ahead of Jared Miley. Garrett Krummert finished fourth ahead of a late charging Ken Schaltenbrand. Polesitter and first lap leader Doug Eck finished sixth ahead of Dave Murdick, John Flinner, Dan Swartzlander and Ed Ferree. Russ King, Mike Altobelli Jr. and Jared Miley won Friday Night heat races.
Brian Ruhlman joined Dave Hess Jr. as the only driver to win two Stampede features in two different divisions by winning the $2,000-to-win RUSH Dirt Late Model Series finale. Ruhlman won his first Stampede Belt Buckle in a UMP Modified back in 2010, while Hess has feature wins in both the Precise Late Models and UMP Modifieds. Like Schneider before him, Ruhlman came from mid-pack (seventh row) and passed the best Crate Late Model drivers in the region to score the win. Ruhlman was chased to the checkers by 14-year old Michael Lake, Alan Dellinger, Mike Pegher Jr. (in a Bobby Lake Motorsports team car) and Jared Hawkins. Third finishing Dellinger came from B-Main #1 which he won; the other went to Wendell Pinckney. Michael Lake won the RUSH Dash and PPMS regular Justin Lamb won the non-qualifiers race.
