Madden collects $20K Turkey 100 victory at Swainsboro Raceway
by Candy Carroll SWAINSBORO, GA (December 2) - Swainsboro Raceway kicked off Thanksgiving 2014 with a weekend packed full of racing action. Thursday night over 50 cars showed up for an evening full of practice and preparation for the $20,000 feature event. Friday night, 63 Zaxby’s Crate Late Model drivers filled the pit area from all over the United States. Drivers were split into 6 groups for qualifying and heat races. Chris Madden grabbed the GRW Competition Engines fastest qualifying award with a lap time of 14.508. After qualifying and heat races, 18 cars were locked into the feature event with the remaining cars left to compete in three B-Main events. Saturday night, the top two cars from each B-Main transferred over to the feature event along with 3 provisionals locking in the field of 27.
Bringing fans to their feet, 27 Zaxby’s Crate Late Model drivers set pace 4 wide with fireworks in the background for the start of the Annual Turkey 100 $20,000 to win event. Chris Madden inside pole and Ross Bailes outside took the green. Bailes outside took over first on lap one. Lap four, Madden moved to the inside battling Bailes for the lead. Lap six, Jonathan Davenport took over the fifth position from Gib Gibbons. By lap seven, the leaders were already getting into lapped traffic. As lapped traffic played a factor, lap eight, Madden moved by Bailes for the lead. A caution on lapped twelve allowed Davenport to take over the fourth position from Michael Brown on the restart. Lap thirteen, Kyle Bronson moved by Brown for fifth. Lap forty-two, on a mission to the front, Davenport took over third from Ronnie Johnson. After another caution, Davenport took advantage of the double file restart moving into the second position. Fifteen laps to go, Jordy Nipper worked his way into the fifth position after starting twentieth. As the leaders lapped nearly half the field, five laps to go, Davenport dove to the inside of Madden for the lead in turn one, Madden and Davenport shared metal off turn two causing Davenport to lose positions. Lucky for Davenport, caution flag waived for Ches Chester, allowing Davenport to regain second position. Chris Madden led ninety-two laps to take the checkered dominating the Turkey 100 and earning $20,000 pay day. Jonathan Davenport took second, Ross Bailes third, Kyle Bronson fourth, and Jordy Nipper fifth.
