UFo Championship Releases Initial 2015 DatesUFo Championship
MARS, PA (January 4) - The "New" UFo Championship Tour has released seven initial 2015 events. The initial schedule includes 10 events over 12 nights. The UFo Championship will include up to 14 events for the upcoming racing season and a season-ending points bonus fund for the top finishing drivers.
Hesston Speedway, Dog Hollow Speedway, Tyler County Speedway and Port Royal Speedway have included the tour in their major Super Late Model race schedule. The four tracks provide the full range of track configurations to determine a true champion of Super Late Model driving for the UFo tour. The tight "bullring" of Tyler County Speedway always provides close racing action. Hesston Speedway and Dog Hollow Speedway are mid-size tracks similar in configuration with excellent passing action. Port Royal provides high-velocity, superspeedway type action on the big, sweeping half-mile track.
Hesston Speedway will reopen in 2015 under the new ownership of JELT Enterprises, Inc. This joint venture between Jon and Lois Claycomb and Eric and Tina Ritchey will see the return of some of the region's best racing to the 3/8 mile. Hesston will follow a similar formula of events that former owner DR Eriksen established during his very successful ownership of the speedway.
All four of the tracks major Super Late Model events at Hesston will fly under the UFo banner in 2015. Hesston was the site of excellent UFo events in 2010 to 2013.. The "DR Eriksen Grand Prix" on Sunday, May 24 will pay $4,000 to the winner of the 56 lap feature. This event will pay tribute the "the Dirt Doctor," David Eriksen, who completely renovated Hesston and brought the track to the forefront of the central Pennsylvania racing scene
"Revolution 2015" at Hesston on Thursday, July 2 will showcase a 44 lap feature paying $3,000 to first place. The powerful UFo Super Late Models will return again on Saturday, July 25 for the "Speedmonster Mach 3" will feature 3 late model features with two 30 lap UFo Super Late Model championships and a 30 lap Semi-Late Model Sportsman race. The fourth UFo event at Hesston will be "Superthunder Road" on Sunday, September 6, paying $3,000 for 44 laps. Hesston will be a bonanza for late model fans as each UFo event is a double late model division program. The track's powerful Semi-Late Model Sportsman will compete in a companion championship at each event.
Dog Hollow Speedway returns to UFo competition in 2015 under new promoter Dan Savino. In 2014, Dan established Dog Hollow as a premier Friday night venue, with strong car counts and amazing racing on the resurfaced 4/10 mile track. The "Shawn McGarvey Championship" will return to the UFo tour in 2015 with a new date of Friday, June 12. The 41 lap feature will pay $3,000 to win. This race celebrates one of the region's most popular winning drivers. Shawn was one of Dog Hollows most winningest drivers and also finished 5th in the inaugural UFo Championship in 2008..
The "Connor Bobik Championship" returns to its home track of Dog Hollow on Sunday, July 19 at Dog Hollow. This established event is presented in dedication to the young son of track photographer Derek Bobick. The Bobick family traditionally coordinates an auction to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation at this race. This event will pay $3,000 to win for the UFo Super Late Models and will be paired with a championship event for the ferocious Outlaw 410 Sprints.
The "ThunderDog Showdown" at Dog Hollow is scheduled for September 24-25-26. This massive three day event is currently the season finale for the UFo Super Late Models in 2015. The schedule of events and payoff will be announced at a future date.
Tyler County Speedway was an initial member of the UFo Championship. Hometown Racing Association has had great success at the track and will continue the UFo tradition in 2015 in huge style. The "Mega-100" on July 9-10-11 will showcase the E-mods with a $12,000 to win, 100 lap feature. The UFo Super Late Models will race on both July 10 and 11 for a total of $10,000 to win over the weekend, with $5,000 going to the winner of each 44 lap feature on each night. The exciting format for all divisions at the "Mega-100" will put this event on the top of any race fan's list that enjoys passing and close racing. The Super Late Models will utilize the UFo format with an inversion in the second night's feature determined by the first night's finish. The E-mods will compete in two sets of passing points heat races on Friday night, with the second set starting in reverse order of the starting lineup of the first set.
Port Royal Speedway will appear on the UFo schedule for the first time ever with two events in 2015. Port Royal is a first-class facility, and has already made improvements for the upcoming season. New clay has been added to the racing surface and new high wall has been installed down the back straight. Port Royal is well-known for its strong weekly Super Late Model program. The UFo events at this track will generate strong fields.
The "Heros of Port Royal" will pay $2,000 to win for 33 laps on Saturday May 23. This race honors the fallen drivers of the track. The 11th annual "Butch Renninger 33" will race under the UFo banner in 2015 and pay $3,300 for 33 laps of high-speed action on Saturday, September 5. Butch was a three-time Port Royal Champion in '66, '67 and '70 and has 41 late model wins at the track. Both Port Royal events will be companion races to Hesston on the following night, setting up a strong weekend payoff for the racers with minimal travel between tracks.
The UFo Championship will provide a strong point fund to the top seven point positions for the current 10 race schedule. The UFo Championship pays 100% of track and sponsor point sponsorships directly to the drivers at the end of the season. Point fund details will be released in the upcoming month.
