Ray Cook Competes in Ice Bowl at TST; Runner-Up in Crate Late Model

BRASSTOWN, NC (January 12) - Ray Cook Racing was busy during the 'Ice Bowl' weekend at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama on January 10-11, as they entered both a Super Late Model and a Crate Late Model at the track deemed as the "Hornets Nest." In Super Late Model competition, Ray Cook fought electrical woes all weekend.

Ray qualified sixth fastest in his group during time trials on Saturday and later finished fifth in heat race action. After running third in his B-Main on Sunday, Ray received a Past Champion Provisional and rolled off from the outside of the thirteenth row in the $6,000 to win headliner. During the course of the 50-lapper, the Brasstown, North Carolina ace hustled his #53 ride past fifteen competitors en route to a steady eleventh place performance.

Behind the wheel of his Crate Late Model, Ray laid down the quickest lap in his group during the qualifying session and later scored the win in his heat race. After starting the 40-lap main event from the inside of the second row, Ray was a major factor to vie for the $3,000 top prize. The popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" quickly moved up to second, battled for the lead in lapped traffic, and eventually settled for a runner-up effort behind only race winner Jason Welshan. Complete results from the busy 'Ice Bowl' weekend can be obtained by clicking on www.talladegashorttrack.com.

Next up for the #53 team is scheduled to be the annual running of the 'Cabin Fever 40' at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia on Saturday, January 31. The unsanctioned Super Late Model special at the Chattanooga-area facility boasts a $3,000 winner's check. Ray won the 2009 version of the 'Cabin Fever 40' and finished a strong runner-up in 2011.
