NeSmith Weekly Racing Series teams up with NCRA for 13-race series

by Roby Helm
CARTERSVILLE, GA (March 10) – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will team up with the Wichita, KS-based National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) to present a 13-race series at seven different tracks in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri for the 2015 season. The NCRA Presents The NeSmith Late Model Series will also work in conjunction with Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.

The NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series will have competitors racing for both a series point fund among the 13 races, as well as the $20,000 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series National Point Fund that will pay $10,000 to the 2015 National Champion and pay back ten spots in the final point standings.

The 13 races in the NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series will be run inside the 27-week NeSmith Weekly Racing Series season that begins on March 23 and runs through September 27. During that time period, drivers competing at NeSmith Weekly Racing Series tracks will compete against each other using a points system that will take their best 14 weekly point totals counting as their season point total.

The first race of the 2015 NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series season will be on May 30 at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS. Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, KS will host a race on June 20, followed by an event at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, KS on June 21.

The famous Belleville Highbanks in Belleville, KS will host the NCRA/NeSmith Late Models on July 5, and the series will return to the Kansas State Fairgrounds on July 25. The series returns to 81 Speedway on August 15.

The NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series will visit Black Hawk Speedway in Meeker, OK to begin a three-race Labor Day Weekend Tour on September 4. The next two races will be at 81 Speedway on September 5, and the finale will be held on the Belleville Highbanks on September 6. The series will also visit RPM Speedway in Hays, KS and Nevada Raceway in Nevada, MO with dates to be announced.

The NCRA is operated by well-known and highly respected promoter C. Ray Hall. The former Racing Promoter’s Monthly National Promoter of the Year hosted a NeSmith Weekly Racing Series event last year at 81 Speedway, and immediately knew that dirt late models powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance 604 Circle Track Engines were the future for this type of race car.

“Looking ahead, I knew for the survival of NCRA and dirt late models in this area, we needed to get together with the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series because they held the keys to the city,” Hall said. “I really liked what they were doing with weekly late model racing, and how they were doing it. We’ve had nothing but positive feedback from both tracks and racers about this new series.”

For the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series, the 13-race NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series begins to bridge a geographical gap between its two western-most tracks from 2014, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX and Salina Speedway.

“We’re excited to be teaming up with NCRA and C. Ray Hall to form the NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series, as we continue to grow across the country with affordable dirt late model racing,” NeSmith Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn said. “The addition of the NCRA/NeSmith Late Model Series now gives the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series 28 different tracks in ten different states.”

Salina Speedway will continue to present the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Late Models on Friday nights, as they did during the 2014 season. Two Salina Speedway competitors placed in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series point standings in 2014.

Veteran Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS took the third spot in the 2014 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series point standings, and Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS finished eighth among the 478 different drivers that earned NeSmith Weekly Racing Series points last season.
