Rain Halts Spring Nationals Series Johnny Salyer Memorial at 201 Speedway
by Chris Tilley
SITKA, KY (April 3) - After heavy rains rolled across the Eastern half of the Bluegrass State late on Thursday evening, its caused the postponement of the feature event of the opening points race of the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer's Oil at 201 Speedway.
The $4,000-to-win Johnny Salyer Memorial main event will be run on Thursday Night September 3rd before the start of the already scheduled Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned Iron-Man Speed Week event that will pay $3,000-to-win. The make-up feature from April 2nd will be made up after hot laps on that night before the Sept. 3rd program begins.
After three short rain delays the field was finally set through qualifying, heat races and provisionals. The field was then brought to the green flag for the start of the 40-lap $4,000-to-win Johnny Sayler Memorial main event with David Payne and Tim Dohm at the point. A hard crash involving Shannon Thornsberry on lap one brought out the yellow flag. As track crews attended to Thornsberry's mangled machine, rains came and halted the main event. Teams were sent back to the pits as officials reviewed the radar. After a half of an hour delay, officials decided to pull the plug on the night's action with no laps complete in the main event. Series promoter Ray Cook would like to thank the race teams and fans who came out last night to 201 Speedway especially the drivers for being on top of the program, helping iron in the race track and being in line when called to the track after the three rain delays.
Kenneth Howell was the fastest of the thirty car field with a 12.941 second lap. The Dash winner was David Payne. Heat race winners were Shannon Thornsberry, R.J. Conley and Eric Wells. Provisonals from 2014 points went to Donald McIntosh and Brandon Kinzer. All drivers in attendance received 75 show-up points.

Spring Nationals Series Loses Florence Speedway Event Due to Weather
by Chris Tilley
UNION, KY (April 4)-After nearly four inches of rain hit the grounds of Florence Speedway between Thursday and late Friday night, officials were forced to cancel the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer's Oil-sanctioned 39th Annual Spring 50 on Saturday Night. There is no make-up date for this event.
"Florence Speedway tried really hard to get this event in today, but between the rains that have fallen the last few days it was nearly impossible to get the track into good racing shape for tonight," said Series Promoter Ray Cook. "I want to thank Jerry and Josh (King) and track crews for all their hard work today in trying to get the track run in to race and we look forward to working with them in the future. I hate it for the fans and drivers who came out today expecting to see a race but it wasn't fair to them as well if the track wasn't safe to race on," said Cook again.
This is the fifth straight rain-out for the Spring Nationals tour and third straight event of the weekend. The series has eight points paying events left on the schedule. The series will now move to Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway on Friday Night April 17th paying $6,000-to-win and then on Saturday Night April 18th at Golden Isles (Ga.) Speedway paying $10,000-to-win. This will mark the first series appearances to the tracks located in the Peach State.
