Brian Shirley Nabs Top Fives in Season-Opening Thaw Brawl Weekend at LaSalleHARRISBURG, ILL (April 9) - Brian Shirley and the Riggs Motorsports team opened up their 2015 racing season over the April 3-4 weekend at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois. The annual running of the 'Thaw Brawl' was sanctioned by the American Late Model Series (ALMS) and a strong field of competitors piled into the pit area at the 1/4-mile bullring. On Friday night, Brian ran second in heat race action and later started the $5,000 to win opener from the outside of the third row. After moving up several spots early in the 50-lap distance, Brian settled for a strong fifth place showing behind only winner Bobby Pierce, Tim McCreadie, Dennis Erb, Jr. and Brandon Sheppard.
At LaSalle on Saturday evening, a $15,000 top prize was on the line in the 'Thaw Brawl' finale. Brian bagged the third quickest time in his group during the qualifying session prior to winning his stacked heat race. The Chatham, Illinois star then rolled off from the outside of the second row in the 75-lap headliner, blasted up to second and battled for the lead, and eventually landed in the fourth finishing position behind only victor Bobby Pierce, Chris Simpson, and Ricky Weiss. Complete results from both ALMS battles over the weekend can be viewed online at
