Oldfield, Giancola and Oldfield Share the Spoils at Perth Motorplex

PERTH, W.A. (April 18) - Although it was Jamie Oldfield who ran away with the feature race victory, it was his brother Warren Oldfield who locked in the Pro Dirt Series Championship, while Marc Giancola locked in the Late Model Sedan Perth Motorplex Track Championship last night in the final race of the season at the Perth Motorplex.

The final night was full of plenty of action, with the feature race in particular thrilling the crowd who had stayed back to see the last event of the Perth Motorplex Season.

Courtesy of his heat race finishes Paul Stubber would start on the pole, alongside veteran sedan competitor Brad Blake. The field was given the opportunity to go four wide and thank the spectators for their support during the year, then the racing was on in earnest.

It was actually Ryan Halliday that took the early lead and quickly built quite a commanding gap between himself and the rest of the field. The yellows then came on for a spun car, which bunched the field up, then another restart was called quickly as Jai Mazzini and Craig Greentree came together.

Phil Zuidema and then Greentree both spun infield, but the race continued, with Halliday once again out to a huge lead. Again the cautions came out, this time for Ludlow who spun on the main straight, then came out again a few laps later for Ludlow once more.

This set the scene for what would be an epic race as just as the yellows came on, both Jamie Oldfield and Craig Vosbergen had passed Brad Blake for a pointy end position. The restart saw the three cars battling it out for third, then catching up to second placed Cardy. All of a sudden the makeup of the race changed with leader Halliday suddenly slowing and heading infield, handing Cardy the lead. Vosbergen battled with Cardy looking for a way through when Blake and Jamie Oldfield made their presence felt and managed to get past Vosbergen.

Jamie Oldfield then passed Blake for second, setting out after Cardy and closing the gap quickly, then grabbing the lead just as Marc Giancola and Warren Oldfield began to make their presence felt further back in the field. The white flag flew and Jamie continued to build his lead, eventually crossing the line ahead of Cardy and Blake.

Earlier heat races were taken out by Jay Cardy, Nat Muir, Brad Blake and Jamie Moon.

Warren Oldfield scored another consistent haul of points during the night and has done enough to win the Pro Dirt Series points, defeating second placed Brad Blake by forty two points, while Jay Cardy was a further fifty seven points back in third. Craig Vosbergen, Ryan Halliday, Nat Muir, Marc Giancola, Jamie Oldfield, Matt Goodlad and Jeremy Hale rounded out the top ten in the series.

Marc Giancola was the man who took out the Perth Motorplex Track Championship, some thirty three markers ahead of second placed Warren Oldfield, while Jay Cardy rounded out a consistent season with another third place. Paul Stubber and Ryan Halliday rounded out the top five.

The 2014/15 Late Model season is now complete and all eyes will turn to the awards night to be held soon. A full wrap of that event, as well as a season review will be released in the coming weeks.
