Riggs Motorsports Nab Pair of Podium Performances in Illinois and KentuckyHARRISBURG, ILL (April 23) - The Riggs Motorsports team was out in full force over the April 17-18 weekend, as Brian Shirley stayed in his home state of Illinois and Jason Riggs ventured to the Commonwealth of Kentucky for his season opener. Jason invaded Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, Kentucky on Saturday for a $1,000 to win weekly Super Late Model program. The Harrisburg, Illinois driver set Fast Time during qualifying and won his heat race during preliminary action. Unfortunately, Jason was spun by eventual winner Charles LaPlant after he had just taken the lead early in the 20-lapper, but he was able to rebound from the tail to salvage a third place effort in his season lid lifter.
Brian took his #3s Rocket machine to Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois for the annual running of the 'Illini 100,' which was once again sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. On Friday night in the $6,000 to win weekend opener, Brian won his heat race prior to leading laps 1-4 and 15-17 of the 25-lap feature event. The Chatham, Illinois ace eventually wound up an impressive runner-up behind only race winner Scott Bloomquist.
At the 1/4-mile bullring on Saturday evening, a whopping $15,000 top prize was on the line in the 'Illini 100' finale. Brian narrowly missed out on transferring into the 75-lap headliner after running sixth in his loaded heat race and fourth in his B-Main. Both Riggs Motorsports drivers are slated to enjoy the upcoming April 24-25 weekend away from the racetrack. Next up for Brian Shirley and Jason Riggs will be a huge Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tripleheader from April 30-May 2 in the states of Illinois and Kentucky. The tiny Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois will play host to a $12,000 to win spectacular next Thursday, while a pair of $10,000 winner's checks will be on the line on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and on Saturday at Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Kentucky.
