WCS CHECKERS TO HAUDENSCHILD, DROWN, DUNCAN, SMITH, D. HENSEL, DAWSON & DELANEY

ORRVILLE, OH (May 2) - The first full night of racing is in the Wayne County Speedway books with some good close racing highlighting Pepsi night as Brad Haudenschild came from his 7th starting spot and swiped the lead away with six laps to go from pole sitter Danny Mumaw. Driving the Kempthorn Auto Mall, Fire & Ice Pub and J&J Auto Racing #38k, the defending track champion from Millersburg, lost his brakes on lap 11 but still was able to track down Mumaw and held off his last lap challenge for the win in  the Fisher Performance Sprint feature. A back and forth battle for third place all race long saw Chris Myers nip Jimmy Pooler for that position while Jimmy Colvin came from his 15th starting spot to claim fifth. Jason Dolick and Mitch Harble topped the heats with Harble’s win coming after he passed Beau Stewart and as they went down the backstretch on the final lap, Stewart hit the guardrail in turn three, climbed and hung on the fence, bending the fence toward the track and landed on all 4’s as he walked away from the incident.  

Defending track champ Ryan Markham popped into the lead at the drop of the green flag of the Lias Tire Late Model main with Brad Malcuit into second. Wooster’s Doug Drown would take that spot on the next circuit and then go wheel to wheel with Markham the next three laps before securing the lead on lap six and then pull away aboard the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Wooster Glass #240 for the victory. Markham finished second as JR Gentry grabbed third from Malcuit with Cody Scott filled out the top five. Heat wins went to Markham and Drown.

The best feature of the night went to the Aamco Transmission Super Stocks as Larry Baldwin, the defending track champ, grabbed the lead from the outside pole position from Wooster’s Nick Smith. Smith would stay within striking range of Baldwin and on the last two laps his car seemed to get loose in both corners and that allowed Smith to make a run and as they dragged raced out of turn four for the checkered flag, Smith’s Hillcrest Trucking, Fire & Ice Pub and The Butcher Block & Deli #11 was a quarter of a car length in front for the win. Tyler Thompson, Gary Hensel Jr. and Tyler Nicely rounded out the top five. Smith and Nicely pocketed the heat wins.

The new Harriger Towing Rush Crate Late Models took to the track for the second time this season with Justin Chance and Charlie Duncan starting on the front row and they would be side by side for the opening five laps before Duncan would take control and drive off to his first win of the season, celebrating his birthday aboard the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Nationwide Vehicle Protection #240. Ryan Markham would pass Chance on lap 16 to finish second as opening night and heat winner Dennis Lunger Jr. finished fourth in front of Brandon Gardner.

It took Wooster’s Doug Hensel one lap to go from his 5th starting spot to the lead to post his first WQKT Mini Stock win of the year driving the Finishline Auto Body, Fast Lane Towing and B S Motorsports #18. Greg Thompson and Brad Hensel went fender to fender for second with Thompson winning that spot. Jeff Edwards took fourth as fifth went to Stephen Crowe. Heat winners were Gary Hensel Jr. and Thompson.

Lakeville’s Billy Dawson led all the way of the Mini Wedge feature to put the DJ Directional Services, Miller Racing and AMS Oil #7d into victory lane. Jolene Voshel, Konner Thomas, Logan Duncan and Caitlyn Johnson followed, Matthew Moore won the heat race.

Scott Delaney was the feature winner of the Flat Track Cart.

The Super Late Models will be the feature attraction next week as the Attica Raceway Park/Wayne County Speedway Challenge Series begins.
