Chase Junghans Takes First World of Outlaws Feature

by Ben Shelton
MANHATTAN, Kansas (June 30) –Chase Junghans made history on Friday night during the second round of the 9th Annual Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway by powering his #18 Shop Quik Racing/Capital/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to his first-career, World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) victory.

“This is just unbelievable,” commented Junghans in victory lane. “My crew guy was telling me that I was driving away from them, and it almost seemed too good to be true. This win goes out to my family, sponsors, crew, and fans, who give me so much support.”

On Tuesday night Chase Junghans resumed action with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) as it returned to the great state of New York for the Great Northern Tour. With thirty-one Super Late Models entered at Weedsport Speedway (Weedsport, New York), Junghans landed another top five finish in the Finger Lakes 40 feature event. Following a 3rd place finish in his heat, Chase battled his way from the 7th starting position to record a 4th place finish behind Shane Clanton, Tim McCreadie, Darrell Lanigan with Morgan Bagley coming in fifth.

To kick off the three-day 9th Annual Firecracker 100 with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Chase Junghans made the trip to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pennsylvania) on Thursday night. In a field of forty-four Super Late Models competing for the $6,000 payday, Junghans laid down the second fastest qualifying time in his group. After battling with Chub Frank for the lead for much of his 10-lap heat race, Chase fell back in the pack on a late-race restart. A 7th place finish sent him into the B-Main. With a 3rd place outing in his B-Main, Chase Junghans earned a spot in the finale, where he charged from his 21st starting spot to retire 9th place finish.

For the second night of the Firecracker 100, Chase laid down the fastest time in a field of forty-five Super Late Models. Following a 2nd place finish in his heat race behind Shane Clanton, Junghans went on to win his first World of Outlaws victory. After earning the pole position in the redraw, Junghans never let go of the top spot, capturing a $6,000 payday with Scott Bloomquist, Shane Clanton, Chub Frank, and Davey Johnson completing the top five. The triumph was the first of his career in WoOLMS competition. The victory marked his second on the year.

Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win, finale at Lernerville Speedway fell victim to rain and was postponed to September 5th.

Junghans will likely take the upcoming week off before resuming action with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) in the opener for the Wild West Tour at Hibbing Raceway (Hibbing, Minnesota) on Thursday, July 9th.

Chase Junghans currently sits ninth in the latest series' standings. For more results from this event, please visit www.WoOLMS.com .
